Contract almost up, how to cancel without getting ETF's and other charges?

My contract is ending 02/12/14 and I want to switch to another carrier. My billing cycle is from 01/26/14 - 02/25/14. I know I need to wait until my contract is over but when is the best time to cancel considering my billing period? I really want to avoid being billed an extra month and obviously ETF's. Thanks!

You can port out anytime after 2/12/14 but before your next actual bill date of 2/25/14

If you port out even a day after 2/25/14 you get hit with a full months of service.

Most ports can take an hour or less up to a few days, but the cellular provider can tell you how long it actually takes.

To be safe port out or if not porting out cancel service on 2/23/14

To be on the safe side, I would even give it a few more days than Elector has stated. Each time I have ported a number, I have ALWAYS been told it would take up to 5 business days for the port to take effect. Yes, it normally is completed before that period of time but I don't think you want to be the exception where it takes closer to the stated amount of time and end up paying for another month of service at Verizon. I would go for initiating the port on 2/20 at the latest if your billing cycle closes on 2/25.:smileyhappy:

No. Do what I'm currently doing. Wait until your 2 year contract is expired. After that you automatically switch to month-to-month service with the exact same plan and cost as what you had on your 2 year contract. After you're in month-to-month status you can go to another carrier and request a number port. When the new carrier ports your number, Verizon will automatically cancel your month-to-month service. You will probably be billed another month but for me it was worth it. No ETF, no hassle with customer service.

The posters contract will be up. They don't want to pay month to month, or any additional month.

They want the date they can port out safely.

That has been told to when they can port.
