Anyone suddenly having their text being underlined?

Last night when I went to send a text using my Droid Mini, each letter was suddenly being underlined in black as I typed it in. I've only had the phone a week and it was doing this before. It is fairly distracting. I thought I had somehow reset some option until my wife told me that she suddenly was having the same issue with her Samsung Galaxy S4.

Oddly my son who has Sprint and also has an S4 is not having the issue nor is his friend who has an S4 on AT&T.

My Mini updated on Nov 8 and my wife's on Nov 14. Could this be an update issue? Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I had this happen today on my Android Smartphone, using physical keyboard (not a touch keyboard on screen). Sent the text anyway. Waited a few minutes & typed another text. The underlining no longer occurs. Sometimes the keys don't work as expected when the smartphone gets too hot. Have had mine for almost 2 years.

Tried what you said. Didn’t work. I don’t think my Droid Mini is getting hot and this didn’t happen for a full week. Since my wife’s Galaxy S4 has started doing the same thing, I’m wondering if it is a Verizon update. Thanks anyway.

An update should only improve your device performance MikeBravo! What specific function is this happening with? Messaging, browser search, social media? Is it preventing you from completing tasks? Have you power cycled the devices since the update? An update can change the functionality of certain features or apps.

We first noticed when texting that all of a sudden each letter we typed had black underline under it. When you spaced to the next word, the underline would disappear.

We had our phones, both from Verizon, mine a Droid Mini and my wife’s a Galaxy S4, for a week before it began to happen. We were already accustomed to a red underline appearing under a misspelled word and that was fine, but the black underlining is distracting.

Thus far, this seems to happen while texting and when entering text in my Quick Office app. It doesn’t happen when I do a calendar entry. We haven’t begun to use an e-mail apps so I don’t know about that.

As I said, it didn’t start out that way and in the week we had our phones before it began to happen, each of our phones received several updates. Additionally, my son’s Galaxy S4 on Sprint doesn’t do it nor does his friends Galaxy S4 on AT&T.

We would just like it to stop.

In regards to the underlined words in your text message body, this may occur when the device assumes that you are sending a website link. You can tap the delete key and then re-type the word again.

As far as I can tell, the messaging app is not assuming that what I am typing is a hyperlink. I even tried to type in a web URL and the text didn’t change to the blue hyperlink that I am accustomed to seeing.

Again, for the first week I didn’t have this problem and neither did my wife with her Galaxy S4 and my son’s S4 and his friend’s S4 on different service providers (Sprint – ATT) are not doing this at all which leads me to believe that it might be some kind of update Verizon pushed out that changed the behavior of text input.

Thank you for the details, MikeBravo! I was able to confirm that this is normal to happen. In fact I tested it on a few Android devices and the same thing happens. There is no way to disable this as this is standard.

Why is my phone doing this. .. underling everything I type. ..auto fill is usless now. ..I am very displeased with this phone now. ... get rid of this underlining. ...it @!#/s

This underlining needs to be an option. ..I hate it ...auto fill no longer works. ..because now everything is under lined
