LG G2 sending MMS

I just bought the LG G2 today and have liked it until 10 minutes ago.  I had to call verizon to find out why a picture woudl not send thru text.  I ws told that wi-fi has to be turned off in order to send pics.  Is this true????  If so why??? Verizon makes enough money off us without having to make us use more data.

Use Textra messaging app.  It's in the play store.  I've been round and round with this issue.  This is the only fix that worked and continues to work.  It's, actually, a nice app.
