I live in a medium population density (5,000-10,000 people per sq mile) area of Brookline, a community within Pittsburgh, PA city limits.
Using www.AntennaSearch.com, I've found that the nearest antenna is about 1450 ft from my home, however, between that antenna site and myself is a hill which completely blocks line-of-sight, and many homes are built upon that hill.
The second nearest site is approximately 2600 ft away, and is a bit higher than my home, but again, the topology of my area prevents line-of-sight.
The reason for this post is because, while at home, I am lucky to have 2 bar signal strength (currently -107dBm 33 asu) and I routinely have phone calls where audio is badly broken up. In addition, there are times when I try to send a simple text message, only to see the "processing" animation arrow (I use GoSMS) for several minute, sometimes resulting in failure to transmit.
Of course, 4G LTE is simply unavailable here. If I'm lucky, I'll get a 3G signal, but many times, it kicks down to 1X. And in case you didn't notice the posting date for this thread, it's July 2014.....1X in a metropolitan community in the year 2014. This is ridiculous!
With a family plan, I'm paying about $175 a month for a service that barely works at home, and I dont know what I can do about this issue to get service. I suspect that all carriers are leasing antenna sites/tower space in shared areas, but still feel that, for this amount of money, my neighbors and myself should be able to expect/demand more from the cellular carriers. In addition to the cellular bill, I also maintain a landline because I cannot rely on my cell to have usable service.
Can anyone provide a suggestion for how to get Verizon to install a new antenna somewhere near the red house in the attached map, so as to better serve myself and the others around me who also suffer from poor to no signal around this location?
Thank you to anyone who can assist me with this!!!
