What does "Unfortunately Google Play Store has stopped" mean?

This error message keeps popping up constantly.  What does it mean?

Lets investigate into this error message. The error message that you are receiving typically means that the application in question has stopped working due to some type of error and is closing itself down. Have you tried force stopping and clearing the cache/data on the Google Playstore? Settings>Apps>All> Google Playstore>Force close & clear cache/data.
