My Samsung Galaxy SIII mini won't make sounds.

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII mini. It was recently updated to Android 4.4 Kit Kat, I don't remember if the issue started then or not but now my phone won't make sounds when the screen is pressed. All the sound settings are set and Sound is on. My phones speaker phone works, my phone rings, and my phone will play music. I have turned the phone off and back on and toggled power saving made off to make sure power saving doesn't disable sounds.

Safe Mode was not successful, so I'm going to need to do a factory reset. How can I back up all my information? Then if the factory reset doesn't fix the issue how can we get everything back on the device?
