VZ Navigator 5.1.0

Since I can't find any other feedback place, I'm putting it here and hoping someone from Verizon sees it and takes action. The new VZ Navigator 5.0 is a step back from the previous edition. The font is far too small to read safely in the car, especially for older people who need glasses! The distance to the next point of navigation should be much more prominent as it was in the previous version (allows for better planning in difficult traffic). The navigation within the system is not intuitive. The "Say It" feature is disappointing. I shouldn't have to press and hold anything while driving. To place a call with my phone I simply press and release the button on my bluetooth earpiece and say, "Call Home" and it places the call. With Navigator I should press and release the button on my earpiece and say "Find Home" or "Find Work" and it should begin navigating there, but it doesn't. If I say "Find Home" or "Home" it simply finds real estate items in the local area. AWFUL! This is a poorly thought out update to what was a pretty good navigation system.

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in finding the latest 5.1.0 VZ Navigator Software Update a horrible step backwards. If the intention was to push people go buy a Garmin, they certainly have succeeded. There is no way to review upcoming steps in route to see if it makes sense or how long each of the next steps will take (without exiting to menu, choosing list view, etc etc). This used to be doable with a right arrow button (on either my LG Chocolate or LG Voyager). Now the arrow buttons are inoperable in the 2d or 3d mode. The program used to be usable pretty much without having to speak or navigate lots of submenus. No more.

A voice interface should never be the default, especially on a phone with a full qwerty keyboard. It is nearly impossible to find out how to do the simple task of putting in an address or business name and asking the program to navigate. I really don't need to know the next 4 rock concerts.

As noted in the first post, the font has gotten smaller from an already too-small font in the previous version (no matter what age you are - we're using these in a car, Verizon!!!). And useful information is gone from the screen and program, only to waste programmer resources to make icons of service stations pop up as I zoom by on the highway at 65 miles an hour.

Additional glitches - the map always starts up somewhere in California (I'm from Ohio but it also did this when in Seattle); the program now takes much longer to find my location at startup than the old version; and I had it plan a route of 30 minutes but it insisted the total trip mileage was 4700 miles. Luckily, we made it to the airport in 30 minutes (didn't feel like we were traveling at the speed of sound but maybe I was too busy trying to read the tiny font I didn't notice).

Verizon, please provide an option to download the previous version. There's nothing in this version worth keeping.

I have to agree on this one. The new navigator is a nightmare. Not being able to see the steps of the route is a big drawback. This is the most user UNfriendly app that I've ever used. And who cares if you can update your location on facebook?

Others seem to have had a choice in downloading but my old version wouldn't load so I had to download the new version. I prefer them to beta test this, but not on me.

Two more great features lost in the "upgrade" to 5.1:

1) Can't search by intersections anymore

2) Can't browse movies by theater

I would pay dearly for a way to downgrade and go back to the previous version. This version is so wrong-headed, someone seriously needs to lose their job over this. Who approved this nonsense?

As near as I can tell the new version added one "feature" - some silly nonsense about updating Facebook status. (Facebook is a toy, and a passing fad, and it is so far removed from automobiles navigation as to render this laughable).

It removed so much...

The most commonly used features are now buried in submenus, and in submenus of submenus. Favorites? Recent Addresses? Even then, one must hit button after button to tell the **bleep** software to actually Navigate to a place, once we finally have it clearly selected.

It is MUCH slower. Much. What happened? Instead of popping up and knowing where I am, we now have to wait... and wait...

That display. Weather reports? Other silly stuff which has nothing to do with actual navigation? The necessity of keying and keying just to tell the **bleep** thing I would like to actually USE the software for its intended purpose? Utter nonsense.

The navigation screens... the 3-D? Ouch! The 2-D Ouch! What happened? Colors are awful, nothing can be read, and now the least important items on the screen are given the most prominence. Who designed THIS display? Ouch!

Who decided to remove to the ability to peek ahead at the next steps on a given route? Who? Why? That person should be summarily fired. Who approved this? Was this tested on any actual user? This is basic, Verizon/ THIS IS BASIC!

I can go on.

Instead, I am seriously offering money to anyone who owns the ENV3 that has not yet upgraded -- I will BUY your phone. Verizon will (of course) not sell me such a thing. So, YOU can profit.

Answer me here, as a reply, quick -- as I have now begun to shop for a Garmin. My only alternative is to cancel the navigator from my Verizon package.

I will be at my Verizon store tomorrow morning. I may just remove this USELESS program from my phone...it is so slow

I made the mistake of "upgrading" my wife's and my ENV3s to this ridiculous software - what total junk! Can only delete all favorites from the phone (not individual ones), can't scroll right or left when viewing favorites, can't scroll right or left when navigating to see the trip summary or next steps... I could go on but I've wasted enough time on this today as it is. I have a call in to see how I can upgrade to the previous version that works - otherwise I'll take all 4 of my family's phones off of the data plan and go with voice and text messaging only. I've been using VZNavigator since 2007 and it has improved with every version up until this one...

Tried it out on the way to work today - no voice prompts unless I turned off my hands-free Bluetooth connection to my car...totally not acceptable. VZ Navigator has taken a major step back with this one!

We have two phones EnV touch and EnV3 (my wifes) My EnV touch I am on my third and there are issues with this one....the only worthwhile reason having this phone was the Backup Assistant and the Navigator 4 now............they have taken 50% of my reasoning away. THIS APP STINKS!!!!!!!!!!! I Filed an official complaint to corporate today. They tried to downgrade me to Nav4 but could not do it...and I knew that already. I will be heading to my Verizon store today...and I will not be leaving with this phone.

I filed an official email complaint last week..got a formula response followed by another one. I sent back another complaint and got the immediate formula response. I said in the complaint this time..."DO NOT INSULT ME WITH ANOTHER ROBOTIC ANSWER" . I have yet to receive an answer which prompted by call to them

BTW...The EnV Touch wreaks havoc on Comcast's CISCO/Scientific Atlanta Digital TV boxes...................so using this phone in front of the TV is no longer an option for me.

My wife tried to use the the new Ad-Sponsored VZ Navigator to help her run some errands yesterday - it now doesn't know the names of some of the major highways around Richmond... "prepare to turn right on <insert silence here> in .5 miles" just doesn't cut it. Thankfully she's not too mad at me for DOWNgrading her phone's capabilities by upgrading to the new version.

Here's a clue as to why we may never see a useful version ever again:

Try searching for something like a Doctor or something else you may need (perhaps even urgently) - your top listing will be a SPONSORED AD for something like a local Best Western (which is what I got last night when trying to find a local doctor). I'm betting that there's some deal behind the scenes that prevents VZW from giving us the choice of going back to the working, useful version.

I'll give it a couple of more weeks and then I'll switch my plan to voice and text messaging only for all 4 phones - VZ Navigator was the only reason I was willing to spend the extra money for a data plan and now it looks like that reason is gone.

Oh how i wish i had seen this thread 2 days ago. Updated the Navigator on my phone to the newer version 2 days ago. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE MISTAKE!!!! If anyone sees this and has the older version, DO NOT UPGRADE to the 5.1.0 Everything about it is bad compared to the older version. Loved using my Navigator, and sometimes for no reason. Lots of times would check my speed in vehicle and boat. Can't do any more. I can only hope a newer version comes out to replace this or someone figures out a way to get the older version back. VERIZON, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!

It is missing location and speed, but I like the rest of application. I have a Tour and can use Blackberry maps to get location and speed.

I like the fact VZNav will now use my bluetooth headset as the default audio device, so I don't have to hear my cribbin' 'bout the phone. Maybe the feature phone versions have some issues, but the BBery users it's a step up.

OK so i really gave this new 5.1 a fighting chance. I used it all over town and on a road trip from southern California to northern California. My wife and I both have the LG env touch. I have the VZ nav. 5.1 and she has the 4.0. the whole time i was comparing the two to see which version i found more efficient. I have been using vz navigator 4.0 for a while so i was familiar with all the capabilities. Although there are a couple of nice new features on the 5.1 a lot of them i wont use IE: the carousel feature that gives you gas prices and weather on the front page........I like the option to look up this stuff but i dont like it on the front page because it takes to long to load and it makes all the other buttons real small also it clusters the front page too much. It needs an option to take it off. Also the facebook feature is kinda lame... it seems like everything is getting a facebooked and tweeterd out just to make it social network friendly. talk about jumping on the band wagon. It also has a feature that sends your location and speed to a data base and the information is used to better direct its users. this sounds good but i noticed while i was in navigation mode my phone lagged a lot. I could press a button and it would take 2 sec to respond. it seems like it uses a lot of processing speed. some things i did like about 5.1: You can enter an address in one line and you can do intersection on one line as well ie: "Hollywood and vine or 12345 south brone st. CA" that is nice cause in 4.0 you had too enter it in separate boxes requiring more button pressing. also i noticed I don't have to enter a city or zip code. just enter the street #, name and state or zip and it will narrow it down. in a way that is more like goggle maps. also it has a "list "of your route. so you can see all the streets and turns it is planning on taking you. this is something 4.0 doesn't have that it needed. although i must say it is lacking the ability to scroll though the steps while in 3D or 2D mode. in order to see the next step you have to exit the navigation screen and enter into the "list" option. This requires too many steps just to see the next street you have to turn on...annoying! when you have a map of your lactation up on the screen and your scrolling new locations it loads the new section of the map faster. um.... what else..........thats about it.. as far as load up time and time to figure up your route the 5.1 was a tad bit faster. I would get different routes with both 4.0 and 5.1.......all the settings were the same so i don't know whats going on there, but its interesting because i noticed i could shut the VZ Navigator off and load it up again and ask for the same directions and it would give me a totally different route even from the same version. Some other things missing on the 5.1 are the " location information" and the ability to see a map of the "steps". you can get weather at your current location but finding weather anywhere on your route is a long process. to navigate "home" takes a couple extra steps as well. and you cant look up all the movie times for a specific theater only by movie title. also the Ads that show up when you do a place search are annoying. if i look up fast food a best buy add will pop up with the first choice??? i'm paying for this service don't put ads in there. The folks at VZ navigator need to listen to their customers and make some changes quick!!!! Oh and one more thing that got me was while on my 6 hour road trip the navigation froze it looked like it was on and i was on a straight road for a long time so i didn't notice that it wasn't updating the 3D map. i ended up missing a freeway! this happened twice now i don"t trust it. 4.0 never did that on my same phone.

I have posted here before...and I get more frustrated using this piece of *&^$! all the time! IF VERIZON DOES NOT LISTEN YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE A MINIMUM OF TWO PHONES IN THIS HOUSE! It is lousy enough that I am on my third EnV Touch since late July 2009..and that this third unit is already doing strange things.

I would have gone to the iPhone a long time ago if AT&T was not so AWFUL here in New Jersey. The Navigator and the Backup Assistant and the reliability of Verizon Customer Service were the only reasons for staying..Important enough. Now with Verizon lagging way behind on phones (maybe 15 apps available for my phone!)...and totally screwing up the Navigator....I think I will buy out my contract and move on.

I have filed official complaints with Verizon both on line and via live customer service. I also contacted the company that created this 100% botched piece of garbage and surprise!...I received no answer to my emails and phone calls. The advertising is really an insult on the lists.

There has been one small update to this garbage..amazing there has been nothing else. I have not seen VZW advertise this....like they know better than to shoot themselves in the foot.

ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS???? PLEASE KEEP THE POSTING ALIVE!

Unfortunately for you folks who previously enjoyed using VZ Navigator in certain ways, Verizon has determined that users were not properly using this program and so made neccessary changes to improve your experience.

This is based on the same philosophy as the mandatory data plans. All users with 3GMM phones need 25MB of data per month in order to enjoy their phones, and all VZ Navigator users needed certain functionality removed/reduced/replaced with new features in order to enjoy their naivigator experience.

I am sure there are probably some upgrades in the VZ Nav 5.1 that are useful. However, there also seems to be a bunch of things that were added, changed, or removed that have caused the program as a whole to have a reduced utility to a large number of users.

My experience with version 4.x was fairly good; it was navigation software that understood that it was navigation software before anything else. My experience, so far, with version 5.1 is not so good -- it seems the software cannot figure out exactly what it wants to be, but it's going to include some navigation features while it's working that out.

Aside from the advertisements (aka "sponsored" locales) popping up on a program that is paid for by the users of the program (remember, we are charged to use it, either per month or per day, the users are therefore the "sponsors"), the program itself seems to have become... dumb.

On a recent search, the program was navigating me away from my desired location. The distance between me and my destination only grew while the software said nothing.

When I attempt to use the "Find" feature, and want to display a map of a selected location, I am instead presented with a map that has ten other location results, usually zoomed out to view of about sixty miles in diameter -- even when I'm only five or so miles away from what I've searched.

Also with the "Find" feature, locations which I used to be able to find for some reason no longer come up in searches.

The display of weather, and other local events, may have its uses -- but those should be considered secondary to the primary use of a GPS Navigation software. A simple addition of the ability to revert the primary screen back to the v4.x format would resolve issues such as that. Otherwise, really consider where Navigation software is generally used, and of what use having the local, current weather displayed prominently is to someone driving a car. With the exception of something absolutely critical like a tornado warning... do we really need such a prominent declaration that it's sunny and 54 degrees, or raining and 72? I could see far more use for a radar/weather map centered around the current location.

However, a simple cosmetic change, while desirable for many, will not address the other issues such as the apparently shared new "slowness" of the program, the undesirable map behaviors, the advertisements in software that is paid for by the user, etc.

I think it is more like 10 steps backwards. When I used to type in an address, you could space down to the City and when you put in the first letter of the city, it would give you the opportunity to populate it a previous city you typed. Now that option has disappeared.

I would like to go back to version 4 but support says that is not possible. If someone has a workaround that lets us go backwards, please let us know.

I am really glad to see that I am not crazy and alone in my hatred for this downgrade. I would like to add that along with all the features that have already been mentioned you also can no longer look at a {word filter avoidance}
MAP OF THE ROUTE!. Really? on a navigator you can't see a map of the route??? **bleep**? As for the person who said that those of us complaining need to "use it" FYI I am a truck driver and use it a minimum of 20 times a day. Also does verizon not realize that on a cell phone you can send a text and update Facebook? why would we need it on the navigator?

RWReese, thank you for starting this thread! The new VZ Navigator is the most frustrating thing I've ever tried to use. The funny thing is, the old version was so great, I gave my GPS away because it wasn't as user friendly as my VZ Navigator. Now, I'm ready to just get rid of my premium package all together. I do not like one thing about the new version!

I have never seen or used Navigator. If it is as bad as all are saying, Wouldn't one think that maybe Verizon would have let PAYING customers use it first for feedback?

It sounds like simply Verizon is getting mucho more dollars by having links to FB and whatever else has been stated that is part of the program now. WHY would anyone care to get on Facebook and post while trying to Navigate from point A to point B?

And you get to see what the weather is outside of your window, not where you are going??? And the higher ups approve it as their was a presentation showing how much more revenue could be generated by adding outside links to the program.

SUGGESTION:

Replace the "Share" button with "favorites" or some other function that makes this application useful. No longer user friendly and to hard to enter destinations and use it for what "I thought" it would be designed for - finding an address.... Just keep it simple folks and you can't go wrong. Sure hope there is a fix, or just go back to the 4.0 version and call it 5.2.

This weekend the Navigator didn't even work - "Unable to complete request, please try again"

AT & T and the IPhone are just looking better and better with each wrong move.

The "share" feature is a complete waste of a useful button.

I joined the forums specifically and exclusively complain about the VZ Navigator upgrade. After 4+ years as a Verizon customer, I never felt compelled to complain online about my gripes, but this was the limit.

Verizon, if your intent with the VZN upgrade was to make customers join the forums, or to cancel VZN and buy a Garmin, you won on both counts.

I cannot over-emphasize it: VZN 5 is an absolute pile of steaming excrement.

Fonts. Too small. We're DRIVING.

Favorites. Can't add to them or edit them. But you gave us "Delete all"? Freaking awesome, thanks for that function! Beacuse, you know, we would never want to actually, you know, change one of them, or get rid of just one.

Turns. Nice, BIG, single-color icons, so I can't quickly tell any more (red/blue) if it is a left or right, but they do a great job of covering up the left side of the map. Awesome.

POIs. If I want to find stuff, I WILL ASK. These helpful POI icons are helpfully obscuring the actual roads I am trying to navigate. But I won't miss that gas station, just like the last eighteen that I passed in the past ten minutes.

Slow. Not only is it slow to load while it figures out where I am, but it seems slow to process. I love hearing that I needed to turn right about 200' back there. I've used VZN for a long time, and this is a clear change from the last version, which spoke up in time. Also, nice to hear "Turn Left on __(silence)__".

Trip preview. Yeah, that's a nice list I can look at before we get going, too bad I can no longer sneak peek a couple of steps ahead any more while in-navigation. But you know I like surprises, so it's cool.

Data entry. Not all of us have qwerty boards. It was nice to enter 4317 on my number pad to start an address with "4317", but now I have to press 4444333311111111111177777 to get my "4317". Or I can toggle to numeric entry, and then back to alpha to get a treet name punched in. HELLO! WE'RE DRIVING!

Facebook. You strip away nearly everything good, but find time to add this? Look, I'm a serious Facebook user, and even I think adding it to VZN was dumber than New Coke.

Quick acces to last trip. I used to load up a plan, see how far to my next turn, let's say, 51 miles, then check my odometer, and shut down VZN to save battery and minutes. 49 miles later, I would restart VZN, and could just press enter three times to get back. The defaults were, brilliantly, Find Destination, Search History, (most recent on top). Click, click, click, and my previous trip was back up. Now, I have to scroll around, and futz through navigation. Have I heard this sentence before: WE'RE DRIVING.

DATA ERROR ENCOUNTERED. Nice, I get this about 30% of the time I open the app (including right this second, when I was trying to remember what else I don't like about VZN5). I'm glad you brought this up again, so I could mention how much I love this. I mean, it is helping me brush up on my manual map-reading skills, good thing I still carry a Thomas Guide. On the other hand, since I can't actually get VZN5 up and running, I can't review the other things I hate about it. Nice counter parry, Verizon.

Good God, I have NEVER experienced an upgrade that SUCKED like this. Not even Windows Vista was this bad.

EPIC. COLOSSAL. FAIL.

Goodbye VZN. My $10 a month will now be going to Garmin or TomTom or whoever. ANYthing else cannot help but be an upgrade.

AMEN. I hate this new version. Specifically , I liked the ability to forward through the steps in a trip simply by pressing the "right" directional button and the ability to see a trip summary by pressing the "left" button. Now you have to go to the menu and pick "list" . This is a pain. Also , I've yet to figure out how to search for an intersection in this new version. In the old 4x version it was plain as day. VZW needs to give us the option to downgrade or quickly provide a new version with the look and feel of the old 4.x version ( classic view ) . !!!!!!!

I up graded to V5.1 about two weeks ago. V5.1 is a big disappointment! I would like to go back V4.5.3! But I’m told I can’t.

I’m a truck drive, all I need are directions from point A to point B. I don’t need the advertisements witch only serves to run up the megabyte count.

When the preferences are set to ”Truck” you don’t always get truck routing.

The old version had 3 lines to input street, city, and state. The new version has only one line for the complete address. If in hast you leave out a comma, space or misspell a word, if you are not paying attention, it could lead you someplace you don’t want to go.

The old version you could get to the trip summery by a simple left arrow chick. And I don’t need to see the complete trip map at the same time, further adding to the megabyte count.

And it dose not work in the extended network.

Well, I was called a couple of days ago by a Verizon rep (I had sent them an e-mail about this mess). It seems people are indeed complaining and Verizon is actually taking their dissatisfaction into account. The rep told me that I could uninstall the VZ Navigator from my phone by canceling the subscription (don't know how it works on the rest of yours, but for my enV3 it was under Media Center), then go and re-download it, where there was both a version 4.5 and version 5 available for download (which I don't remember being available to me before). Now I'm back to enjoying my v4.5.

Again, I don't know how it will work on your phones, but if you want to upgrade down to 4.5, it'd be a good idea to contact Customer Service directly about it, they should probably be able to give you more information specific to your phone.

Worked fine for my env3 - synch'd with the web and all my favorites are back. Now to get my wife's phone done ASAP before Verizon changes their minds...

I accidentally accepted the navigator upgrade. That was a big mistake. I lost the capability of deleting individual favorites and lost most importantly of all the lat/long elevation information for the current location. I gained a lot of stuff that I have no use for. The screen lay is extremely poor and too small. It is hard to go from one screen to another.

I am seriously thinking of canceling the vz navigator. The current version is no help to me. I only started using VZ navigator in December with 4.5 since it was free for 30 days with the new phone. I decided to use it for free. I keep it because it was easy to use and provided me with useful directions and information. I have never seen a software upgrade that deleted features from previous versions.

I hope that 4.5 comes back as 5.2

Have you tried putting in two cross-streets for an address to find an intersection? Works for me!!

I can browse Movies, and then look up Showtimes, or Movies Theaters as a Place, and then movies playing at that Theater??

To everyone reading this thread...

I have posted a few times above, rather vehemently, about my utter disgust over the new "upgrade" to VZ Navigator. I also called customer service, and gave them a verbal itemized list of my complaints with version 5.1

Now, though, I do think it is important to note the following:

Verizon has indeed been listening.

In case you missed this (I did, until I was informed via private message), there has been a definite change.

You now have the ability to delete the VZNavigator Version 5.1 from your phone -- completely -- (you may see something about canceling your account. Yes, that is what you need to do.) Then, go back in and search through the lists of applications for downloading, and you will see two different VZNavigators. You will see the new (Version 5.1) and the old (Version 4.5). This was my wish, and the wish of others, while Verizon takes some time to try to fix the issues with 5.1.

Additional notes... after you download Version 4.5, you will see one note that informs you that an upgraded version is available. This is like drugs, kids -- just say no! You do not want to undo your hard work. You are trying to downgrade, man! This note appears immediately after you accept the EULA -- the End-User License Agreement with all of the legal mumbo jumbo.

I now am a happy camper, and adding my favorites in to Version 4.5. The app appears to be exactly as it was, as near as I can tell. Nice, easy to read, works fast, no more stuttering, no more "Turn Left on ----------------" Hit that right button, and you see the next leg on the route. Hit the left, you see a map. No more advertising, no more hiccuping, or telling me to turn 400 feet after the intersection... No more hunting through twelve keystrokes just to call up a "Recent" address, or to call up "Home."

Thank you Verizon. I was about to buy two Magellans, as the total cost was much less than canceling my complete Verizon package and paying the penalties. It is nice - refreshing even, to see such a large corporation respond to these complaints.

To repeat... Verizon did listen, and they have provided a quick fix for those of us who were not happy. I also want to personally thank Misty, who -- it appears - did not drop the ball on this one.

I finally punted and went the lost password route, and was told my user ID of E1782 was not activated.

Addendum....

You almost got on my bad side again.

I loaded up VZN 4.

When I went to start it, my phone rebooted.

Try again. Reboot again.

OK wise guy. Powered down, powered up, tried again, rebooted again.

Argh. Powered down, pulled the battery, thought about what I was going to write on here, replaced battery, powered up, tried again, rebooted again.

............................................ ugh.

Just before I reverted to flaming online again, I decided to go all the way.

Uninstalled VZN4, powered down, pulled the battery, thought some more about what I was going to write if this didn't work, replaced the battery, powered up, reinstalled VZN4, powered down, pulled the battery.... (inhale), simmered, replaced the battery, powered up, tried again, and..... it worked, the installation finished properly.

Ding!

I had a good rant getting going inside my head. Gotta use it somewhere so it doesn't go to waste. Someone else will have to suffer it, Verizon made a narrow escape tonight.

I have VZN4 back! Let's dance!

I totally agree. You would think that a newer version of something would have all of the features of the old version plus some new USEFUL features. Verizon took a step backwards with this new version. I am so frustrated with this new version. 9 times out of 10, I'm trying to navigate to an intersection. I don't always know the address of where I'm going. This new version is such crap!!!

That's not true. You can cancel your subscription in the media center. Go to vz navigator. When it is highlighted, click on options and cancel subscription. Then re-download it in the media center. You get the option of 4.5 or 5.whaterver. Choose the 4.5 version and don't upgrade when it asks you if you want to. I read it in another blog and did it myself and it worked. Thank god. I hate the new version. You can't even navigate to an intersection with the new version. That's what I use 9 times out of 10. Hope this helps. I think every VerizonWireless customer shares your frustration.

I can't link to the web to get my favorites. I can't do a local search for a location I am heading to.

I am just unhappy with this app... Why am I paying for it?

I have to agree with the other blogs on this one! It takes so many more steps to get to the screen that you want than in the previous version. The find places only returns about 6 choices, which is 3-4 times less than what you got with the previous version. It also takes longer for it to find global positioning than it did previously. This upgrade was definately a down-grade!

Hi..i just happened across this thread...I may be late in replying but i am in 100% agreement with those users complaining about the so-called upgrade of vz navigator to 5.1. IT IS TERRIBLE. i want to go back too! After complaining to verizon, i'm told they will not be going back; just got finished this morning talking with them. Verizon is probably getting too much $$ from facebook and other **bleep** ads on VZN to give that up.

WHO DECIDES THESE THINGS>>??!! Useless changes which have taken away valuable functionality. As much as I generally like Verizon's actual phone service, I am currently shopping around for a different service - NOT PHONE - a different service provider. Between this ridicualous change of VZN and other so-called "updates", they are slowly destroying what in most cases have been very good apps. (dont get me started on Mobile email changes!!!)

VERIZON: PLEASE LISTEN!!

I totally agree with everyone about how HORRIBLE the upgrade? to vznavigator is. Verizon took us back to the dinosaur age!! Can we please have the old version back. This one is useless and like you, I may cancel my subscription and look for a Garmin. Too bad but we may all need to cancel our subscriptions to get Verizon to pay attention to us.
