There is an app called Plan B that you can load remotely via the playstore on your computer, if the phone is linked and registered on your playstore account. Of course, the phone has to be on and accepting data....

You can check your call logs and see if any calls have been made, and the origin of the calls.
Of course, if it is lost, you want to report it to suspend service to prevent unauthorized use and charges to the line. Once it's suspended though, locator apps will do you no good.
Plan B only works with 2.0 - 2.3 versions of Android. An alternative is Android Lost or Google's Android Device Manager:
