How do I uninstall the kitkat update. I am unable to use my phone properly because of the changes? Not happy as it is affecting my work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've read in other posts there is no way to revert to your prior version. I was hoping for the same, but it appears it is not an option.
Hello bazcatz!I regret to learn you're having issues with the update and your device. msrkfixit1 is correct, you aren't able to revert back to the previous version. However, I'd like to ask what model device you have and what's happening since the update? Let's figure this out together! Please supply me with some details.Thanks!ChristinaB_VZWVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I want to uninstall it, too. I have the Note 3 and I've been so happy with the phone, until now. After the KitKat update it is SLOW, text messaging is inconsistent, I have more problems with GPS and WiFi connections, and my phone is getting hot and the battery only lasts hours now, not a full day (or days!) like when I first got it. Coincidence???? I was going to do a factory reset, but other posters are saying that doesn't help. I haven't added any new apps to cause any of this, either. HELP!
MY PHONE ISNT WORKING!!!!!! ALL MY TEXT MESSAGES ARE NOT GOING THROUGH!!!!! THIS IS TOTALLY UNEXCEPTABLE!!!!! IM NOT PAYING THESE REDICULAS HIGH PRICES TO NOT USE MY PHONE!!!!!!
Your CAPS LOCK must also be affected by the update.
Good Luck
you cant and the fix to the problem wont be out til sept or oct
I want you to get what you pay for bjkimbrell1. Have you tried to delete all your old and long text threads you no longer need? I would also try safe mode to see if any apps may be conflicting with the new software and affecting your text. The last step to help with issues is a hard reset. What phone do you have? I'm having the same issues since the kitkat 4.2.2 "update". I have the Note 3, and since that update my alarm started doing its own thing and robbing me of sleep, WIFI won't stay connected longer than a few seconds, the battery has to be charged daily now, the charger is super slow and I am now getting a message to use the original charger - which I am, text messages aren't always being sent, the camera is not the same high quality that it used to be, updates are not on time, probably since the connection is so poor to the WIFI, and the phone reception is now almost nonexistent. I've had this OS update since May, and I'm about to do yet another factory reset. None of the safemode type options mentioned above have helped one bit. Can someone in Verizon respond and let us know when the next update/fix will be put out. I really don't want to have to ditch this phone or Verizon for the lack of service here. There is no point in having a smartphone if it does not work.
Thank you, and I look forward to a helpful response.
I keep reading how people blame Verizon wireless and other cell carriers for something not of their doing.
The upgrades come from Google and sent to the phone makers and then to the carriers.
Verizon may have some bloatware added like My Verizon or that sports app, but they do not touch the base code of the update. You have no issue with Verizon's service, your issue lies with the maker of your device.
Since other carriers are having these issues good luck finding a provider that is trouble free with the updates.

So, then the option is to jump ship to Apple I guess. I rarely ever hear of anyone with an Iphone complain about the glitches they have with android devices. Although I wish Apple would make bigger phones, it might be time to make the switch if Google/Android can't get it together before launching updates! It's ridiculous!
I will speak for others and myself that it is very frustrating to be told it is not an update issue when the problems begin immediately after the update. That IS a service provider issue.
I went online with Verizon support earlier today, as the most recent bug from this update on my Samsung Note 3 was not to recognize the original charger and basically run out of battery power completely. No battery, no phone. So I was able to change back to my previous device/smartphone and they are sending me a new Samsung Note 3. I bought it in November 2013, so its still under warranty. Android is a google OS, and this is a google update. Yes, Verizon sells the phones, but they aren't the programmers who create the software on these phones. My advice is to get in the chat, or call them, and well, calm down first, let them know all of the issues your phone is having so they can submit that and we'll get the 'fix' sooner. If your phone is under warranty, you might be well advised to get a replacement. Give them the chance to work with you. I've been with Verizon for 7 years now, and although I'm not a die hard customer, I'd leave if I needed to, but they have solved every issue I've ever had. I'm usually polite when I call/chat, though.
Good luck, and I'll post again and let you all know if my new Note3 still has problems. I hope they don't have to ditch this phone altogether.
You can't uninstall it from what I've read. So far I've had success doing a factory reset (granted I'm only on my second day of it though). Keeping fingers crossed. If it doesn't work I think we're all SOOL until Google puts through another update!
My post was deleted, but there are options to revert to a previous Android version. Although the process is completely supported by Android, Verizon Wireless likes to stronghold their customers and not give them any options.
The update to kitty Kat came from Google and the device maker. Not Verizon wireless who only provides your service. If you have a broken device that is not Verizon's fault. Think.
Yesterday when my air port did not function on my iPhone I did not call Verizon to blame them after Apple updated my os. I simply went to Apples support forum and found a hard reset will correct the issue.
And it fixed the issue. Again your device is not Verizon's problem for an update.
My phone (Motorola Razr HD Maxx) has had nothing but problems immediately following the update to Kitkat as well, to include the COMPLETE inability to use the 64GB micro SD card (which I paid Verizon $150 some time ago and, until recently, was used on a DAILY basis in my job). I can no longer write ANYTHING to the SD card, even if I take it out of my phone and insert it into my laptop! The camera on my phone now takes sooooo long to write the data to the phone's on-board memory that 90% of the photos I take are blurry (motion blur). It seems the "shutter" remains open while the phone attempts to write the data to a file. Meanwhile, I have usually dropped the phone down from the subject since the phone has shown a preview of the photo I just took, but apparently hadn't written the data to memory yet! The majority of my apps no longer work and the return key on my text message app keyboard is now non-existent (a supposed "improvement" that I absolutely HATE!). I'm fed up with Kitkat and with Google's apparent flippant attitude towards its users.
Now I fully understand that Verizon didn't write the software update, but they sell the products that are driven by the software as an integral component of their business. If a car manufacturer produced cars that had an engine made by a subcontractor, and nearly every engine installed in that model car kept blowing up, I would think the auto manufacturer would be more than just passively interested in the impact on their customers. Anyone ever heard of a "recall?" I would think Verizon (along with every other company selling products with this lemon of an operating system installed in them) would have at least a little "pull" with the folks at Google. Why can't Verizon, as the lead advocate for the plethora of unhappy customers, work a solution with Google to figure out how to revert all the dissatisfied customers back to Jellybean!???
Verizon is a service provider for cellular and data service. That's it period.
In their guise as a retailer just like Walmart, Target, BJ's, Best Buy they sell electronics. The fact is the warranty is not initiated by Walmart or Best Buy who also cannot roll back a bad update.
Verizon as a courtesy will warrant your device for one year under the manufacturers warranty. Verizon does not have their own warranty after 15 days.
Your car analogy is also flawed. The different components in a car are covered by the maker of the car. This warranty is clearly spelled out. 3, 5, 6, 10 years total coverage or longer if you pay for it.
Verizon gives no such warranty since they make nothing but money.
I read yesterday that this update hasn't hit all of the android phones yet. That made sense, then, that there isn't more of an uproar about the problems. Every single person I know with an android, and its not a small number of people, have noticed at least something about their phone is not working properly. Some are seriously affected, and others not so much. Some weren't even aware that their texts and calls weren't going through, then finally understood why people kept accusing them of ignoring messages. Google knows about this... they know most everything else about our lives, so I'm comortable in assuming that they know our phones are no longer tracking our every move.
A recall of some kind would be nice. I guess I tend to see smartphones as any other elective technology. If my bosses wanted me to use a smartphone for work, I would expect them to buy me one then do something to deal with the problems that would most definitely arise with them. Technology I choose to use to help with my job is probably not ever going to be a smartphone unless the company I work for makes it or controls how its used... I currently work for a government agency who gives us the technology they want us to use for the job, and when problems come up, their tech people are responsible for knowing how to fix it. I sympathise with those who chose to use an android and its SD card for work. I wish you all the luck in the world in explaining the problems to the boss.
My replacement Note 3 downloaded new software, but I have postponed the installation of the update and will continue to do so every single day until I read somewhere that one of the updates my phone downloads is a fix to all of these problems. Even with the 4.3 it has on there, its not perfect. GooglePlay won't download my playlists to my phone via my home wifi connection. And a few other things are mildly buggy, but I'll deal with it for now. Come on, Google, I know you all can read this... FIX IT!
The best results you will get with OS updates is to install them on the phone just after you do a factory reset. That way the OS update will not be influenced by any software or apps your have previously put on your phone. After you get the update, then do another factory reset.
Smart phones are complicated, and becoming more so. Putting a new OS update on a phone with a shaky foundation (lots of downloaded apps) is just looking for trouble.
I did that, actually, and still had the same issues.
I've installed updates before and after Factory Resets and my phones have responded to them about the same, some of the things a person can do to help with installing new updates is to make sure the battery is fully charged, The source you use to install the update weather it be by Wi-Fi or the Network is Strong not weak, and in the user setting's were you'd run the Factory reset un-check Google services so the service doesn't install old settings back on the phone..
When the Factory instal has finished and the phone ask you re-enter stuff back into the device by-pass through the set-up wizard's that ask this, when you get to the main menu then you can re-enter your Google account Username and Password and other Credentials.. I've done this procedure many times over the 4 years of Owning Android phones.. And it has done well for me..
