Yesterday I received the software update notice on my Samsung Note 2 - and accepted.

Now my phone says:

System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless Store for help.

I went to Verizon and they said they've never seen this error before. They did the hard reboot, which showed the little android guy standing up for a minute then he falls over and you can see a heart in his chest. So Verizon said you must go to a Samsung store inside Best Buy and they can help you.

I went to Best Buy Samsung counter and they've never seen this error before. They said go back to Verizon.

I need a solution to this problem. This phone worked fine until the software upgrade was offered and accepted. There's nothing on this phone I didn't get pushed from Verizon or from the PlayStore, so I don't know how I could have something "unathorized" on it.

I purchased the phone for $300 from Verizon in December 2013.

I tried a different Verizon store. After suffering through another "I've never seen this message before" and "how about a new phone" conversation with an employee, the manager took over.

He couldn't get the phone to continue with the software install. He did some google searches, pushed some combination of buttons on the phone, then pronounced I didn't root the phone (good news for me because I thought maybe I had done it accidentally... I know nothing about rooting a phone).

He said instead of sending me back to the Samsung desk at Best Buy again, he'd replace my phone.

He suggested I purchase a warranty during the upcoming get a warranty regardless of age of phone offer in July. For just $8/month I can protect myself against failed software updates provided by Verizon/Samsung.

I am happy I have a new phone.

I am not happy I am at the mercy of Verizon and Samsung programming. I have to pay extra to protect my phone from the providers I already pay/paid.

I don't know if it's related or not, but on the day the software bricked my phone, there issues in my area with cell towers cutting in and out.
