No internet - why won't Samsung use cell phone towers

Wow - very very frustrating! I lost my internet service (at home) - so guess what? My new Samsung 5S wouldn't use the cellphone internet access service I AM PAYING FOR. Instead - it says no internet service. My phone and text message feature worked fine - but no internet access (to check my mail). I am paying for that service and feel that just because I don't have internet running at home I am prevented from using a service I am paying for! What am I doing wrong?

Well have you tried Running a Power cycle on your S5.? you might try doing that if you have not.. You said you lost your Wi-Fi at home ok that can happen so when you hooked your S5 up to it when it was working did you by chance Disengage the Network if so it needs to be re-engaged so it then can let your S5 reconnect to the Network and then things can get back to working as they did..

No - never had to worry about this with my other phone. Now, when I lose my WiFi at home I have to try different things - wow - thought having a new phone would make life easier. Hmmm - if I use my WiFi at home that means Verizon doesn't expend resources - use Verizon's cell - Verizon has to use resources - kind of makes you wonder? Sorry - still "concerned" about having additional steps for something that should be so easy - no WiFi go to cell...

Depending on your knowledge level with home networking and wireless routers I have found that if you go into the router and assign a dedicated IP address for your devices (your cell being one of them) the trouble connecting is now a thing of the past.

Having two networks running at my home I have assigned IP addresses to all my devices. In example I placed my cell on 192.168.125 and then assigned 192.168.126 to my other iPhone and 192.168.127 to my wife's phone and set my DVD players, and Rokus and tablets, laptops, Wii system, home phones which use VOIP all their own IP addresses.

They always connect perfectly and no fiddling around for a connection. Look in your owners manual on how to do this.

Also if your router has 5G and the device can acquire that speed hook to it.

Thanks Elector for your help. I simply shouldn't have to do anything but turn on my cellphone. Geeez, I pay 8 zillion dollars a month for this service - one would think it would be "pain free." Anyway - the heck with it - it isn't worth the trouble.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. I was blowing off steam - would rather live with Verizon's inconsiderate use of someone elses WiFi then mess with setting on my router, etc.

On my N600 Router Big E I can hook 4 through Line out or Fire Wire and utilize Gigabit speeds, Using my phone on my N600 the speeds are really Quick as well as I've mention in past post but when I change my settings on my M8 from Global to LTE / CDMA things got a little better for my M8.. using the Network..

Check your settings - you may have cellular data disabled or limited (I do, to conserve my 2 GB allowance). There may be a setting to use cellular if wifi is weak or unavailable, so it will swap seamlessly between the two.

You can also try disabling your wifi and bluetooth and forcing thephone to use cellular while your home wifi is down.
