since Samsung update there is a RED X over my battery charging symbol whenever I plug in. It does charge at least. But I prefer the charging symbol.
How are you charging the phone? Are you using the original charger that came with the phone?
I had the same issue and called verizon after trying multiple chargers and getting the same result. Verizon rep over the phone told me that most likely my battery was on it's way out, ad that batteries usually aren't kept in store. I didn't want to risk going on amazon or ebay and buying a battery and have it not work. Lucky for me i was eligible for an upgrade and went to the store that day.

Im getting the same thing... It appears to be charging though... if the battery life % indicator is accurate.
Apparently I'm not the only one. Over the past few days, loosing charge quickly. Whether I use the plug that goes into the computer, the car, or the wall, the lightening bolt does not stay .. now there is a red x when I try and charge ... what is going on???
