So I have paid for roadside assistance for approximately three years and have never used it. Then, while traveling from Utah to Arizona in the middle nowhere on the Navajo reservation my hub breaks rendering my car useless. No problem, I'll just finally use my Verizon Roadside. So I looked at the sticker on my window and dialed roadside assistance. The representative asked a few questions and then asked what city I was in. I explained to her that I was in the middle of nowhere and provided her the nearest mile marker and highway number. She again asked what city I was in. I explained that I was not near any city. Condescendingly, she informed me that everywhere is near a city. I informed her that the nearest city was Flagstaff which was 80 miles away. She said that wouldn't do. Again, she enlightened me that everywhere is a part of or near a city. She intelligently asked me what was around me. I informed her that there was only dirt and bushes. I asked her if this was some sort of box that needed to be filled out before we could proceed to actually call for assistance and she said "Yes". I then told her to simply fill in Flagstaff so that a truck could be dispatched. She told me that I wasn't near Flagstaff! NO KIDDING!! We were now 20 minutes into this conversation and my family had a bewildered look on their faces at the exchange that was taking place. Exasperated I asked to speak with her supervisor. There was silence for about 30 seconds so I said, "Hello". Yup, she was still on. At that point I hung up and procured a tow truck from myself.
By reading the services provided I realize that this service is mostly set up for in town problems but should that completely preclude one from getting assistance anywhere? Do breakdowns only occur inside city limits? What has been anyone else's experience with this service?
P.S. I did submit for reimbursement a few weeks ago after speaking with someone but, as of yet, I have not heard anything.
