Question about my new plan and the My Verizon data usage meter.

So I was grandfathered in to the unlimited data plan for the past several years, decided I wanted a new phone but didn't want to pay retail for a fancy new phone, so I went ahead and got a new contract. I went with nationwide 450 and 6 gigs of data as I don't really use TOO much that often.

My issue is that I had already used a little over 2 gigs, switched to the 6 gig plan on the 15th, and when I look at the data usage chart on the My Verizon app it says I've used the 2.3 gigs, but out of an allotted 1.7-something, therefore making me OVER my limit. I assume it's just some sort of hiccup but would like to know for sure so I don't get charged extra.

That is exactly what they did. The info you gave us indicates you used 2.3 GB since you signed the contract.

I Suppose it is possible they did not reset to zero, and if that is the case it will be fixed for the bill. Look at your daily use since the contract and see if it is 2.3 GB or 0.3 GB

Looks like you will be charged extra at this point. You switched contracts in the middle of your billing period, so you will only get a portion of the 6 GB until your next billing cycle starts. My calculation says you will start you new billing cycle 8 or 9 days after you made the change. However at this point you will owe $15 overage charge.

Uh, the hell I will. That makes absolutely no sense. I could understand allotting me less data to use in the short period of time I have until my next billing cycle starts, AND starting me back at zero, but not this. Or to put it in other words ADDING the 1.7 to what I've used already to basically say I've used 2.3 gigs and I've got 1.7 more I could use.

Like this they'd basically be charging me for data I used before I agreed to a contact.

Um no you've got it wrong. What you used before the change won't count. It's only what you used after the change that counts.
