I live in a suburb of houston and my data speeds have been really slow!! Im talking 3g and 1x speeds of no higher than .50 mbps and as low as 0.06 mbps. It is basically unusable a d very frustrating!! I have a iphone 4s also. Is this normal?
If your signal isn't very good, 0.50Mbps is about right for 3G on Verizon's CDMA network. Closer to the tower (almost on top of it) you will hit a maximum of 2.7Mbps down, 700kbps up when the phone switches to a higher, less congested band. Those lower speeds could be attributed to congestion, throttling if you're on an unlimited data plan, or just a lousy signal to or from your phone.
To get better speeds you should consider moving to a phone that has LTE support, and also supports the new AWS spectrum Verizon is deploying.
