Can data limits be a privacy issue?

If your data usage is being monitored, does that also mean the content of your data is being monitored? I know the NSA and Verizon are linked, but is there even more of a concern with these data limits? Would it be better to have a plan that consists of unlimited data, minutes, texts and then make sure none of that usage is being monitored in any way? In this day and age of a greater concern for privacy, I'm curious what would work best so that data limits, usage monitoring, etc., goes away.

data caps and whether or not your data is monitored are not even related. Even on a unlimited plan your data can be looked at if Verizon actually wanted to. People needs to stop asking for unlimited data you're into getting it back any time soon.

But in admitting that they monitor the AMOUNT of data, would that also mean it's more likely that they monitor the CONTENT of data? I have a large enough data plan for my three lines (well, my 19 year old daughter pushes it sometimes...). I'm just posing the question as it can relate to privacy. I sometimes interrupt conversations on my phone and ask if the NSA guys listening got enough coffee and donuts. :smileyhappy:

Think of it like the water company. They know how much water you are using, but have no idea what you are using it for in your home.

It wouldn't matter limited or unlimited. They'll track everything regardless of how much you use.

Do you think the NSA would say "Oh that guy has unlimited data we can't monitor it". In what way does that make sense?

Thinking about it...

It would be more beneficial for NSA that everyone has unlimited data. They'd be able to collect more data instead of less data.

Wouldn't matter. They'll monitor either way. Even if you have unlimited your usage is still monitored. Last month I used 125mb out of unlimited. The month before 4.5gb out of unlimited.

So does it really make a difference?

Maybe the only difference it makes might be who we tend to vote for or contract with, I guess. Not sure if we will ever truly regain our privacy.

People are expecting the government to do more and more. This is why they are getting more and more power and spending more and more money.

I do my best to convince people you shouldn't trust strangers with your stuff... Most of us will never even see those DC guys in person, but yet people want to trust them with their business, their health, charity, education, retirement...and those strangers don't even know how the rest of us live...
