In May 2014 after years of Verizon wireless service for my old business, I had to close my business account and switch my cell phone and air card service to AT&T. The only reason I switched was to avoid a huge up front deposit Verizon was going to charge for my new business. In June, I noticed that the phone had cancelled, but the air card had not. I called Verizon customer service immediately and they said the air card didn't cancel automatically. I told them I hadn't used it since the day I switched and asked for the account to be cancelled and a credit for the balance. The customer service rep agreed. Since then, I've been getting a bill every month...its now up to $385.36. This is supposedly for an air card that was $20/month. I've called every month and gone through hours of discussion with customer "service". It usually goes like this: "Are you ready to make a payment?, I can't credit or cancel your account" "I'll connect you to the business department". "Sir, you weren't on a monthly pre-paid so you still owe the money", "I'll transfer you to xxx". Then mysteriously the phone hangs up. I've called 4 times today and each time ended up with a hang up after long waits in-between shuffles.
What is my recourse? Contact the State Attorney General and file a complaint? Ask to speak to someone at Verizon who won't transfer or hang up on me? Do any of those people exist at Verizon? Anyone out there have any ideas?
