New Here - and question about Blue Tooth adding (or connecting) device

Hi!

 

I'm new here. I just got my very first Verizon cell phone, Motorola Rival. It's activated, I set up voice mail.

Haven't done the visual voicemail yet but will, asap.

 

Also added a Blue Tooth headset, and that is 'paired' successfully (hope that that is the right expression). That's what my question is about. When I clicked 'pair' my cell also discovered my wireless Powerbook. I didn't do anything with it, but I am so curious, what can I do with that? And if I do pair my phone with the laptop, does that take up airtime?

 

I'm really curious as to any advantages there would be.

 

And last question (promise), doesn't this also mean that wireless laptops and alike can connect with my phone? Maybe this is too far fetched but I am so new to this, and I have so many questions !

Hi and welcome to Verizon!  And cell phones, and bluetooth, and endless gadgets and toys and FUN!!

 

OK--to your questions..."paired successfully" is the correct terminolgy and you are doing well to have done it on the first try.  It took me awhile to get it all together!  Your Powerbook obviously is bluetooth capable, is broadcasting itself, and your phone found it.  If you pair the phone with your laptop you can transfer files from the computer to the phone or from the phone to the computer.(music, pictures, etc.)  Very handy if you can get them paired!  And no, it does not take up airtime... 

 

The only time other bluetooth capable laptops and other devices can connect with your phone is if you have it broadcasting and looking for something to pair with (as it was doing when it discovered your computer).   During normal use, you are not using "discovery mode", and only your headset and phone or computer and phone are paired.  I don't even think you can have both the computer and headset paired at the same time...it's one or the other.  I could be wrong on this, so someone correct me if I need it!
