Porting Number to Another Carrier/Contract End

My contract ends in exactly one month, but I would like to go ahead and get set up with another carrier. I would like to port my number over, but was wondering when it is safe to do so. Also, does anyone know the Early Termination Fee for canceling a contract one month before the end?

Avoid the ETF altogether by porting out one day after your contract ends.  But, to answer your question, the ETF with one month left is $120 for a smartphone contract, $60 for a basic phone contract.

As far as being "safe" to port - I would recommend doing so as close to the end of your billing cycle as you can to have as few days left as possible, since you will be billed for the entire current billing cycle.
