Will unlocked work with VZW

I currently have a a pay-as-you-go VZW plan with a flip phone. I am looking to purchase second-hand from an online site a Samsung Galaxy S4 or S4 Active. Both are GSM and both are unlocked. The S4 is not tied to a carrier. The S4 Active is an AT&T unlocked. Will these devices with on the VZW network?

Nope. Verizon uses CDMA for calls and texting neither one of these phones have CDMA radios. Also neither of those phones use the 700 MHz LTE frequency Verizon uses they only use the AWS frequencies.

Thanks for your reply. This is all very confusing to me. So basically I would have to have a Verizon Galaxy S4...and then wouldn't be able to use it on other networks if I chose to switch?

Ye you need a Verizon branded Galaxy S4. Since the GS4 also has GSM radios in them it would work partially with At&t or T-Mobile but not Sprint. Don't expect 4G speeds. It's best to use phones designed for the network you'll be using. Each carrier uses it's own frequencies for calls, texting and data. There is very little crossover.

You will need to change your pay as you go plan to a monthly prepaid plan in order to use a Verizon Wireless branded smartphone.
