How can I what is using up my data automatically without my approval??

My wife and I are being careful to NOT to used out allotted data. However, there are repeated data usage being used up without our approval. How or where can we find what is doing this?? There is a set pattern of repeated usage at four difference set time of the day and night.

You can restrict which apps can access the cellular data on the iPhone in the area I gave earlier. You can also see which applications are using the most data. Start with restricting the data hogs.

Perhaps it would also help to read through the iPhone user manual and learn more about what does what in that phone.

Are you turning off mobile data when connected to wi-fi for extended periods? Have you ensured that you have syncing off where you don't need it (like to cloud backups)? Have you checked your phone's data usage to see where it's being used (if you don't know how to do this, post which phone you have so that users can assist with specifics)?

My wife has an Apple iPhone 5c. Whatever is using up Data Usage on her phone is doing it every 6 hours on the nose. So I know what time each day that this Data Usage is being used. With the fact that I know what time of day this is happening, is there someway I can find what App or Setting is doing the damage??

1. As far as I can remember the only information, which I could find was just the DATE, TIME, and AMOUNT of Data Used. I do not remember ever being able to find what APP or SETTING is using the data. What we are looking for is a method of INPUTTING the date & time, then learning what APP or Setting used the data at that time.

2. Would using the RESTRICT BACKGROUND DATA option stop this automatic leakage of data usage?? We are not concern about battery usage. We just want to plug up the hole in the data usage on her Apple iPhone 5c smartphone.

3. What we are looking for is a method to force her Apple iPhone 5c smartphone to only use our HOME NETWORK Wi-Fi while she is at home. I know that I found a pre-loaded/install APP on my Droid MAXX smartphone, which would NOT use our HOME NETWORK Wi-Fi, even if it was ready available. So is there some source of information, which we can uses to find if her iPhone has any APP, that would NOT use our HOME NETWORK Wi-Fi, even if it was ready available??

If you see that listed that way on My Verizon that does not mean data is being used at those times of day. Sometimes Verizon reports data shortly after it's been used. Sometimes it waits 6 hours to report all usage that happens in the previous 6 hours.

So for example if you see data being reported at 10:20 PM, 4:20 AM, 10:20 AM and you know you were in bed at 4:20 AM. That doesn't mean you used data at 4:20 AM. That means it's showing ALL data being used between 10:20 PM and 4:20 AM. Why it does that sometimes I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure this is the crux of "Verion is adding data when I'm asleep" posts.

It is likely the times when the towers are programmed to report in the data usage for that site to the corporate servers.

yeah but there are many times where there are reports just minutes apart or less than 6 hours.

Are you getting overages, or are you just seeing a lot of usage at these times? If you're not getting overages I wouldn't worry. Either way, make sure Mobile Data is off when you're at home so that you're not using your GB allowance.

Some people think because they have wi-fi on that mobile data can't be used. Well first sometimes wi-fi goes out and you might now know it or you go to an area with weak wi-fi and it switches to mobile. Secondly some apps will use mobile data regardless of wi-fi being on unless you change that app's setting or disable the app or shut off mobile data.

1. Yes, I see your point. My wife and I got our Verizon smartphones at the same time ten days ago. Yet her Apple iPhone 5c 8GB has used 1,042.43 MB of Data Usage compare to my Droid MAXX 16GB use of 129.02 MB. I was the one that set-up both smartphones for everyday usage. So to the best of my knowledge both smartphones are set-up similar to each other.

2. While playing around with my smartphone yesterday, I discovered that my phone has not been accessing our Home Network Wi-Fi. Since that time, I have corrected my error, and has it set-up properly to access our Home Network Wi-Fi now. And as far as I know my wife's iPhone has been set-up correctly to access our Home Network Wi-Fi a day or two after we got our smartphones. And after double and triple checking her smartphone yesterday, it should have been accessing our Home Network Wi-Fi properly.

3. My wife has been careful to use her iPhone while at home. And I have carefully adjust the settings on her iPhone, so that all the APP that she will not be using, can not access any data usage. But I am in the Dog House, until I can explain to her, why her iPhone is using over 8-times the data usage than mine.

4. I have found an APP on my smartphone, that would not use our Home Network Wi-Fi, even if it was available. This APP was preloaded on my smartphone, with a free 60-days trial subscription offer. I have since cancel the trial subscription and disabled this APP. Therefore, I been asking if anyone knows of any more APP like this, that I need to disabled or blocked.

here's the thing about iPhones if you have wi-fi and say you set it down, like any phone the screen should shut off after a minute or so maybe sooner. iPhones then disable wi-fi at that point until you turn the screen on again. So any running apps or background programs will start using mobile data unless you have it shut completely off.
