I received my rebate by email today of $36 after submitting a fully functional iPhone 4s assessed at $200. I called up Verizon today and they said the device does not turn on. I have been turning this device on and off for over 2 years and have never had a problem. In fact, I turned it on then off one last time before putting it in the envelope to mail back just to confirm find my iPhone was turned off and to ensure all data had been removed from the phone. The only thing I can think of is that they did not charge it when trying to turn it on as I’m sure a few days past between me sending it and them turning it on. It’s really unbelievable that Verizon would sink this low to take old iPhones out of circulation. I will update if Verizon does the right thing here and fixes the issue. I'm sorry to report that this may be a scam.
