Can't recieve land line phone calls

My cell phone can not be called by a land line. The error message says "We're sorry, you do not need to dial a 1 before this number" no matter how my cell number is dialed.

I don't know how long this has been going on. I've only been a Verizon customer for a little over a year. It's tough to know how many phone calls I haven't received.

I called support and she didn't know what to do. She had me go through all my settings on my phone, but they are all okay. So I'm dead in the water. Has anybody had this issue?

Verizon is new to Alaska and the local cell guys are not happy with them being here.

Have you tried just the 7 numbers of your cell phone, ( Like this 000-0000 ) give this style a Try and see if the call goes through.. here in the lower 48 I can use this style to call my cell phone but to send Text to some one I have to use all 10 Digits

The OP should dial all ten digits of the phone number wwhen dialing from the cellular phone. Not seven digits. Not eleven digits. Some, areas of the country require both landlines and cellular phones to dial the ten digits in order to complete the call.

When Verizon set up in Anchorage, they received a block of numbers. They used to get an entire NNX (the first three digits of a "local" number, but they may not have gotten all. Each other telephone company, landline and cellular, must set those NNX numbers in their switches. Apparently one or more did not. So when someone dials your number, their phone company thinks it is a long distance number, so tells them to dial a 1 first. The caller needs to let you know who is the calling phone company so you can go to Verizonwireless and have them contact the calling phone company. Verizon can't solve the problem because they don't know which phone company has the NNX missing and can't get into their system.

I have had this problem several times as we added new NNX's within our company.

Could be a Kansas thing For Local Calls because it works ok here, Now if I call long distance or any 800 then I use all the numbers.. But sometimes it works just using the Area code & then the Number..

The dialing requirements are localized. Denver required all ten digits since before 2000. Parts of Nebraska began requiring it in 2012 when they overlaid a second area code. However when I first got a cellular phone in the late 90s. I was told to use the full ten digit phone numbers even though the area where I had service didn't require it for landlines. Since then I have always stored phone numbers in my phone as the ten digit number. You are doing yourself a disservice by not getting yourself into the practice of using ten digit numbers. One of these days the whole country could require it.
