Can I port the number from my iphone 5s when it's out of contract in a few weeks, and place it on a iphone 6 that's already bought on a new line and cancel the line?
No.
need more then just a no. Why wouldn't not be able to port the number which should cancel the line in the process and have it used on the iphone 6? Usually when you port the number off a phone it cancels service.
You can't switch contract, Edge payment program or phone numbers between the lines of service you have on your account. Basically, the answer is still no.
so pretty much i'd have to just port the number out some place else instead of verizon and get the line canceled. Then port it to the iphone 6.
you can request to save the number you want and then cancel the out of contract line and have the saved number put on the iphone 6
Kayeeates, that is incorrect. If you cancel the line, the number is lost. Also if you open a new Verizon Wireless account within 60 days of cancellation, they will only reactivate the previous account and assign a new number to it.
OK...hopefully that's possible.
but I wouldn't be opening a new account after it was canceled. The account is already made and will have it's own number already. I just want to use my number instead.
Then why couldn't you wait the few weeks until your current account is eligible for the upgrade and not have this hassle? In it was announced yesterday if your contract ends before 2014/11/15, you could have upgraded early for the two year contract price.
Now you have to wait until your contract date and port the number you want to another carrier, start a plan there and turn around and cancel the other carrier plan by porting the preferred number on top of the temporary phone number you got when you purchased the iPhone 6. It is more hassle then it is worth. I should know as I have done something very similar three years ago.
You can cancel the new account/number and pay the ETF ($350) if it was a discounted phone. If you bought the 6 full price, just cancel as you are not under contract. Either way, the phone is then yours.
Then go to your current account and in "my Verizon" just change the device (iphone 5s to Iphone 6) for the phone number you want to keep. Iphone 6 then has the old number; your not "porting" anything.
I can't think of a reason this wouldn't be allowed unless Edge throws a monkey wrench into the equation.
as long as you are not on edge you can change the number. what you have to do is change the number you want to keep to a different number, then cancel that line. once the line is canceled the number is avalaibe for you to change the contracted number to your original number this can all be done in one phone call to customer service. so for example your current number that is going out of contract is 4455. change the 4455 to a different random numbr 6677. cancel the 6677 number and the 4455 number will be available. change your contract number that has the new iphone to your 4455 number. it is called a TNI swap and it can be done
Or just go to my verizon>my device>swap device. Then cancel the line they no longer want and pay the ETF if one is due. If both numbers are not under the same account, cancel the line you don't want. Then log into my verzizon>my device>activate new device and activate the iphone 6 to the number.
It's all done online and you know it was done the way you want.
i was told by verizon to request to have the number you want to keep saved and switch it to the in contract line then cancel the out of contract line
once again request to have the number saved
