Does Slacker Use Data From Your Plan?

Does Slacker on Verizon use data from your data plan when one is on LTE, or does Verizon have a relationship with Slacker similar to the one Beats Music has with ATT so that when one is streaming music on the Verizon LTE network it does not use data from one's plan?

Slacker has always used the data connection whether it is the cellular data or the wifi connections.

Any data you use on LTE will use data. I believe slacker is 128 kbps which is 56 MB per hour or about 18 hours to use 1 GB.

Using it over wi-fi will not impact your data cap.

Let me simplify the question because none of the replies so far answer what I really want to know. I understand that data is used regardless of whether I'm on wifi or LTE.

Does Verizon have a relationship with Slacker similar to the one Beats Music has with ATT so that when one is streaming music on the Verizon LTE network it does not use data from one's plan? YES or NO?

And I guess if I have to go to this length to find out and it's not easily available on Verizon's website to get this answered like it is on ATT's site for Beats Music, then the answer is probably NO.

And I answered you. NO. That is a net neutrality violation anyway. Net Neutrality means not favoring one service over another. Having a special deal with one company is clearly doing that. Verizon does not have anys deal with any companies to avoid data charges.

Confirmed No. Verizon has no special data exclusion deals at current.

And I agree with mrhelper, in the long run these special deals will actually end up hurting consumers. Favored access will lead to less competition and less choice and less innovation.

What we needs is bigger buckets at reasonable prices that are not restricted in any way.

T-Mobile has a plan specifically geared toward not using data when streaming music, whether it be on Slacker, Pandora, or iHeartRadio. It was a good question, and it would be nice if I could stream without having to worry about data.

There's a catch with that. Those apps still use data when it comes to album art and lyrics for example. You can't turn those off in the app and it does use some good amount of data. It's on their forums conversation.

There are already questions whether to not violates net neutrality. ALL data is supposed to be treated equally. If some data is exempt form caps and some aren't well that's not treating it equally. Besides if you used something like Google Play Music or Spotify Premium they have bitrates as high as 320 kbps. If you had 4 lines and each one listened 6 hours a day each that would be 100 GB a month. Even something like Pandora standard that has a bitrate of just 64 kbps would use 20 GB a month at 6 hr/day per line. I don't see Verizon giving out 100 GB or even 20 GB for free especially when they don't need to. Maybe they'd might offer something unlimited music for $10 per line or $25 for the entire account. Even that I doubt.
