Out of Contract

I would like to get out of my contract...how do I go about this? When I signed up I signed for Edge Agreemnet...made my Upgrade time to find out I can't, because a month ago I was late on a payment, so now I'm on monthly contract and if I want to upgrade to new phone I have to pay full price....customer service sucks at Verizon and I want to switch carriers.....

This depends on the status of the original contract you got your phone and plan on. Until that contract end date is reached you could upgrade your plan which would renew the contract or, depending whether or not the end contract date has passed, you can drop the plan/contract entirely. If you are still under contract there would be a Early Termination Fee of up to $350 for each line in the contract. You can verify your end contract date in MyVerizon. If you take a new subsidized phone that will be a new 2 year contract agreement.

You can't cancel the current contract and immediately start a new one.

Why penalize me for this? I quess there is always a NEW carrier who would like my money...alot of good deals out there right now on getting new customers...maybe I will let them buy my contract....

Have you verified your end contract date in MyVerizon? Unless your plan has the Unlimited Data feature it would be difficult to sell, and even then Verizon just ceased the ability to AOL/Transfer such plans with a UDP effective midnight on November 13th. I would confirm your end date and reach that before facing the ETF and dropping the contract.

My agreement date started Nov 1, 2013......just saying that no one is perfect and why penalize me for one time???? I will be checking into other carriers because eventually Verizon doesn't care about their customers who pay their salaries....

First off, my guess is if this is such a big issue, you can't afford to just drop Verizon and start up a whole new contract. If I understand your problem, you're wanting to edge up but you can't because you missed a payment. This is true, and VERY well detailed in the contract I'm assuming you just signed and forgot about.

If you miss a payment, your account is hotlined. That means you can't edge up or get any special benefits because you've missed a payment in the past 6 months. These are the terms and conditions and it's not Verizon's fault you missed your payment. Trust me, EVERY carrier is like that.

No, no one is perfect. Your account didn't get shut off, you still have phone service, so what's wrong? You want a new phone right now? You made a mistake, you pay the consequences. True, it was one time, but why would Verizon pretty much rent you out a phone if you've shown a missed payment? Good luck getting a mortgage, or a car loan, or anything that requires stellar payment history..
