No New Voicemail Message Notification Option?

I am a new Verizon customer and just spent 30 minutes listening to a months worth of unheard voicemails and then attempting to go in via the specific Florida location instructions on how to set my notification preferences so I could turn notification on. While the pdf document provided by Verizon shows an option to do this, none actually exists. The number prompt is "an invalid option". I find it hard to believe that my new Galaxy Note 4 phone does not offer a simple new voicemail message notification feature. Can anyone help with this? I am out of ideas!

We don't want to start your service off on the wrong foot, pattyoc1971. There's definitely a way to make sure your notifications are turned on! If you dial *86 from your phone (or call your own cell phone from an alternate line and press # to inturrupt your greeting) you should be able to press 4 for Personal Options from the main menu, followed my 1 for Message Waiting Indicator On or Off. The system will then tell you whether it's on or off as well as give the the option to make a change if needed. If you are also using Visual Voice Mail, please make sure your mobile data is turned on for notifications to deliver properly.

Thank You JenniferH_VZW, for the reply. Your answer is exactly what I said does not work: I press 4, then 1 and operator says that it is not a valid option. Also, it is not one of the voiced options at all. I only tried it because the written instructions downloaded from Verizon said to. I have listened to every option available in the voice mail system and I can tell you that this is not the only item missing. The Verizon operator only provides about half of the options shown in the downloaded flow chart instructions (see link for exact flow chart I am referring to).

I am only concerned with my lack of notification when I have a new voicemail, that is why I only mentioned that one here. I have checked my phone and mobile data is on. I am sure this is a simple fix - I just haven't found it yet. Do you have any other ideas?

Ok. I have just set up the visual voicemail app. I now get notification of new voicemail messages. I really wanted to be able to dial in through *86 and handle it all that way but I guess Verizon doesn't fully support that function. I need to receive new voicemail message notifications so it appears I'm stuck with the app.

I still find it odd that so many options are missing from my *86 voicemail menu.
