can not make calls in northwest missouri and southwest iowa

I have a Droid Turbo and my wife has an Apple iPhone 6+ and even our previous phones (Droid Ultra and Apple iPhone 4) we can not make calls on I-29 around Mound City, MO all the way to Council Bluffs, IA.  It says, "I'm sorry your call can not be completed as dialed because your wireless provider does not have a roaming agreement in this area".  Our son has a Droid Mini and he can make calls on his, which is a mystery why he can and we can't.  It is so frustrating!!  We can access the internet but can not make or receive calls.  We have shut our phone off and restarted them and that did not do anything either.

Hopefully someone can help with this issue.

The radio configurations are probably different on the Droid Mini from what the iPhone 6 and DROID Turbo have. I know that particular area doesn't have any Verizon Wireless towers because a regional carrier has the towers and owns the frequencies normally used by Verizon Wireless.
