software update problem

i would like to know how i can update my software on my lg lucid. i recently found this phone but i haven't gotten mobile data or a phone number yet. every time i try to search for an update, it fails. it says error 412. i would like to know if me not having a phone number,sim card, or phone not being connected matters. Can you please tell me the requirements of a software update or tell me how to update it correctly
