software download complete message

I have a box at the lower right of my computer that says: Software download complete. Install Now Install Later.

I'm not about to download something like that. I googled it and someone said is was a Verizon message involving my Samsung galaxy phone. Anyone seen this?

I think the message you've seen was in reference to "Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant". It is a safe program to install and you can locate the file by using your computer's file search program. It will be located in the download folder. When you connect your phone for the first time to your computer the file will download into the hard drive. It will also try to auto update from time to time. But it's good to ask questions before opening your computer to any download.

Verizon really needs to identify this popup box as being from them. One should never click to install a piece of software with so little identifying information ... like NONE for this one. I had to Google search to find out this likely is related to Verizon software for my Android, but that shouldn't be necessary, and is unacceptable....

Excellent answer and it's such a shame that management level people in the Verizon Corp. more then likely never view this forum but with a glance. So much good could be learned of what VZW customers really need from Verizon in many areas. I was reading in a newspaper just a few days into the 5.0 nightmare a short write-up. It said that one of the best network in North America (VZW), may crumble because of almost zero customer care support. Sad but could come to pass,

I wasted an hour of my time trying to find what program this bogus, BS message box was associated with, only to finally track it down to Verizon software. The software is now uninstalled from my computer. I refuse to use crap applications that waste my time, absolutely no reason for this kind of junk. My next phone probably won't be Verizon even though their network is good. I don't need to waste my time on poorly written applications.

It is nice to see Verizon finally attempt to respond to this issue. However, your response does not appear to address our concerns.

The update to PC software associated with certain Verizon phones shows up as an anonymous pop-up on the computer, asking the customer to install now or later. We don't want to click either button, because there is nothing on the pop-up to say it is from Verizon, or that it has anything to do with a cell phone.

The software delivered to us because we use YOUR phone service is forcing us to drop everything and search online for an explanation. That shouldn't happen. Are you going to fix that?

Maybe it would help if you could see what we are talking about. It looks something like this:

The date on this one is old because I pulled it off an antivirus forum, where the problem was identified TWO YEARS ago. It is still happening. This does not feel like good customer service.

I have noticed these 2 popups. Only happens when I plug my phone in. One is the icon near the clock and the other is what happens when I click on it.

It is difficult, at best, in this day of computer technology to think that a company like Verizon could send software to a customer's computer and that it would download automatically without consent and then display an anonymous message like "Software download complete. Install Now - Install Later.

With so many hacks and viruses to be avoided how is a customer to respond to a message like this?

Verizon conducts TV commercials about other companies offering "Half Fast" services with a reference to a negative phrase and yet, allows me, a well paying customer, as well as many others, to be subjected to such irresponsible business practices. It does not matter that this might be partially constructed by Samsung. I am a VERIZON customer. I pay VERIZON for my phone and services.

Can someone with some authority and technical skill please respond to this in a responsible manner. I would like to know that Verizon understands that their customers are at risk to download an unauthorized virus or malware; and, I would like to know how they will remedy this current situation; and, how they intend to prevent this from happening in the future.

I'm a software programmer. Speaking as one, I would NEVER make my software look like a trojan horse virus the way this HORRIBLE popup message does.

This is absolutely unconscionable and I frankly think the programmer that did this should be fired and sent back to school.

I've been worrying about this suspicious message in my tray for days now. Come to find out that it's YOUR fault.

Why on earth you can't just put VZW...or something...ANYTHING in the box telling users what software is being updated is beyond me.

Just look at this monstrosity! LOOK AT IT!!!! Do you really want your users to blindly click "Install Now" button with nothing whatsoever to go on here when they boot their computer? Really? This is nothing more than a popup, it doesn't tell me who wrote it, what software is being updated. Nothing. Just says to install the software update.

Put it another way. Your grandma calls you up for help. She sees this strange box in the corner of her computer that says what your's says. Are you going ot tell your grandma, "Oh honey, yes go ahead and click that box, it's just fine.

If you answered yes then you must also be answering those emails from Nigerian princes with $6million dollars if you just give them your checking account number they will deposit it straight to your account for you because "You've been chosen"

PFFT...I hope you can sense how disgusted I am with this.

I found this forum (among a few others) when searching the web for this exact issue. I even saw some people have reported this same issue since 2013. As a software developer myself, I just want to second what "pacv" stated above. This is not some snooty developer's preference regarding display/design (I've seen plenty of those)... it's just plain atrocious for even the most common user.

To be fair, that pop up does not appear in Win 8.1 or 10. The software updates manually with a right click of the icon or when you plug the phone into the PC and the software starts up.

I couldn't say it any better than pacv. As someone in IT, this is just beyond the pale. VZ you should be [removed] ashamed of yourselves for allowing this trash. Then again, anyone who has ever interacted with more than one of your home developed apps or your website knows you bare bones the work just so you can add an extra feature to the list of things you're providing us - so you're probably getting what you paid the [removed] who wrote this software for. As long as that profit margin stays high as [removed] it's obvious you guys could give two [removed], right?

And yes, I did make a profile SOLELY to chew your company out about this. You can expect an irate phone call about it as well...

I just got this non descript distressing pop up message today. Clearly this issue still has not been addressed and is still causing concern to Verizon and/or Samsung users! I have Windows 10 and I have not plugged in my phone for at least a month so the previous poster was incorrect in saying that this is not happen in the newer operating systems. Even though I have come across this forum, I am honestly still very leery of hitting either button.
