How can I read an incoming text without dropping the active phone call?

I thought this would be a simple question, but Apple Support was unable to answer it.

This is the scenario: I'm on a support call and they send a text containing a security code to the same phone I'm talking to them on. I have to read the text and give them the code before they will help me. But when I switch to the text app the call disconnects. So how do I read the text without dropping the call?

CosmicHam, you've reached the right place for help. You can retrieve that text message by pressing the home button and tapping message. It would also be helpful to place that call on Speaker mode while retrieving that message.
