Very bad network coverage over the last month or so

I understand the imporance of having service in your area Shannon79! When did this start? How long has this been going on for? What is the make/model of your device? Where are you (zip code) currently having the issues at?

My wife and I are both experiencing this as well. I'm on an iPhone 6, she's on an iPhone 5S. Mine reports carrier software "Verizon 20.1", Modem Firmware "2.41.00". I'm in the Boston metro area.

I regularly get 3G where I know there is LTE coverage, often fewer bars than I'm used to, and sometimes nearly non-existent download speeds and "Extended" network. Usually, toggling airplane mode fixes the problem, but of course also forces me to have to reconnect bluetooth devices which is quite annoying, and often interrupts other data access in progress that's stalled due to network problems. To be clear, this is somewhat intermittent, it's probably every 3-4 days that I have to kick it hard to get it behaving again. But I've never done that with this phone or my prior ones until this update.

It has seemed had to me since the carrier update about a month ago. I didn't notice any particular change with iOS version updates.

I have tried resetting network settings and rebooting the phone with no apparent change.

I am having the same problem... dropped calls and my text messages fail to send at least half of the time. Very frustrating. I live in Western Massachusetts.

After reading all these messages, I'm glad I'm not the only Verizon Wireless customer with crappy service this past month! What the heck is going on? I live in Upstate NY in the Catskills with a Verizon Wireless Network Extender in my home. I never had a problem until the carrier update also. I have crappy service even in the lower Hudson Valley too, not just at home.

Good luck getting a fix. I have had the same problem and have spent countless hours (about 25 hours) of troubleshooting with VZ. Their final answer was sell me a network extender or let me out of my contract for another provider. Very terrible solutions if you ask me.

I have:

Reset network settings

Restored phone and tested before restoring the backup

Messed with data roaming and Voice and data LTE settings (per VZ)

Replaced SIM card

Returned device and got a new one

I live in Peoria AZ and work in Downtown Phoenix AZ Bad service both areas

Was in Denver CO for work with same issues.

I've spoken with about 6 tier one tech support with very little help, just basic steps ive done over and over.

Talked to maybe 3-4 tier 2 tech support and i swear it was pulling teeth to get them to send me a new device even after the last tier 2 said test for a day and call back if not better and well send a phone. Communication between employees is terrible and even worse with the customer.

I kept getting texts "were still working on your ticket please allow 24-48 hours for an update"

would get same text 2 days later. after that they send a text saying "were still working on the ticket well get back to you when its done."

10 days later I call like "where we at? they say, "your ticket was closed a week ago and they said it was a spotty coverage area"

That was extremely annoying because i gave them three address, in 3 cities, and 2 states yet they only look at one.

but playing video or loading pages are the worst. I seriously sit there for like 20 minutes trying to watch a 2 minute video (very frustrating)

Download speed tests are never over 2mbps. Usually they are in the range of 0.10 - 0.30 Mbps

These issues have been going on for close to 2 months now. I do think it either has something to do with iPhone 6 and/or 6+ OR Apple's 8.3+ software.

I have since upgraded to 8.4 with no resolution. It should be noted I used to get 20-45Mbps down.

Dont get me wrong I dont mind slow speeds here and there but unusable speeds are unacceptable. I also have a problem that Verizon isnt trying harder to replicate the issue and resolve it. They would rather lose me as a customer than deal with the issue. Based on this post and others I have seen on the VZ page I am not the only one with the issue nor just my state, It's nationwide. I dont believe I should be paying a full bill when my phone doesnt work the entire time im at work (no wifi). They offered me 15% off for a year.

I want VZ to recognize this is a problem and work on a resolution not just brush it off like nothing is happening.

Funny VZ offered me a job out of college making some good money in a Technology Leadership Development Program (oh the irony), glad I turned it down because they obviously dont know whats going on or care to resolve it.

Hi everyone, I thought I'd post a quick update following up on my original post. I went through the entire Verizon process, from every possible iteration of resetting and rebooting to finally replacing the phone, and that did not fix it. To recap, here were the symptoms:

-- Sporatic dropped calls. Also, every so often I'd get a message that "all circuits are busy" which never happened before.

-- Weak indicated signal strength overall, and random LTE dropouts, and increased battery usage because the phone detects a weak signal.

-- Bad data connectivity, as in LTE indicated on the phone but apps saying they can't connect to the network.

The default fix in the Verizon stores is to reset network settings (which fixes it long enough to get you out of the store), or sell a network extender, or both.

Long story short, here's what finally fixed it (I think). On your Verizon account home page, go to "Devices" then "Plans and Services" and disable "Advanced Calling Features." This removes the VoLTE service from your account. After I got the alert window on my phone that Verizon removed the service my signal strength (in field test mode) jumped 10db.

I want to point out that this is NOT the same thing as going to your settings and setting LTE to "Data Only". You've got to go through the web page and remove the service itself.

I suspect that VoLTE being a new service means there are some bugs that aren't quite hammered out yet. Just wish they'd have told me that to start out with instead of wasting time figuring it out for myself...

I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days and post if I turn out to be wrong. Or maybe one of you smart guys can chime in and tell me why I'm wrong. Either way removing VoLTE seems to have made performance go back to what it was before they rolled the service out. Which, in hindsight, kinda makes sense.

I and many others in my area have been having the same problem and getting the same run around from Verizon 'customer service.' Told I am in a variable coverage area. Variable coverage area? metro Atlanta? And yes, told I need to by an extender for $250. Am I supposed to carry it around with me in my car. Service much worse every where. I will try your solution.

Also, note that a lot of the problems started about the time, they sold off their towers to a third party.

Advanced Calling is not enable on my devices. Still looking for solution, but thanks.

We always want you to get world class service wherever you are. That's very important. Are others having issues in the same locations you are? What is your zip code? Is it mainly an issue inside or outside as well?

It's worse inside, but only slightly better out. As I and many others have said, in the exact same location, I have gone from 4-5 bars to 1-2 bars. After I answer all the questions, i.e. zip code, (30338) in the end, just like the others, I am told I am in a variable coverage area and can buy an extender for $250, which will not help me anywhere except in my home. Driving around metro Atlanta, I have not gotten more then 3 bars in several months and rarely if ever get 4G. Something changed with your service.

I'm curious the last time anyone has had full bars somewhere.

Awebb5355 I definitely understand your frustrations as it is very important to have awesome coverage. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this issue. I don't want your concerns to go unheard. Does this happen only in your home or everywhere you go? What does your signal strength show? Are you getting any error messages when this happens?

Awebb, I assume your issue is the same one that dozens of us are complaining about here and on Verizon's Facebook page. Did is start a few months ago? None of us have gotten help from support because support can't fix this. Verizon changed their service and we are all suffering as a result. Good luck getting a straight answer from them.

Oh Hey! I've gotten another thread going, and now the response is "Increased Foliage". We live in Atlanta. The trees are always in bloom, nothing special changed with them in June/July except that maybe they lost a few leaves because its been super dry (besides the occasional violent pop-up storm that brings branches down). Something different! Yet, still the same.

I've been having the same issues just not in my home town witch is a 4G LTE area , but I've been travailing to bigger cities that are bigger than where i live where i know there is 4G and I'm still having the issues , before i called Verizon I did some troubleshooting myself I reset the device, that did nothing , i reset the network settings and its still slow , before I left on my next trip i went to the store to switch out the sims card and that didn't help. I personally think its something wrong with the Verizon network. We pay to much to NOT have a network that doesn't deliver on their end of the agreement . I called the customer service and they wanted me to do the same things I've already did i don't have the time to sit there and call when Verizon is " the most reliable network" (joke) and another thing Verizon needs to change is the 24/7 support because you cant call and get a live Representative.

Please go post this in the Verizon Facebook page thread where dozens of others have the same problem. I am posting back to links here, but this forum is more private, where the Facebook page is public. Until enough people complain to affect new customers, they aren't going to address the underlying problem.

Please see my post on this thread about 3 weeks ago and the steps I have taken.

After hours of troubleshooting they came to the conclusion that i am SOL.

These speeds are in my office at work in downtown Phoenix 85004, on the 20th floor.

I am having the same issues - my phone is continually saying it is out of network. Mobile Network not Available. I live in Iowa - Sioux City - which is 4G. I cannot text, call, etc. I have a Samsung Note 3, and this has been occurring for the last month or so. I restart, which sometimes works, sometimes not, (just restarted and I still receive the error Mobile Network Not Available. Not acceptable for either my personal OR Work Phone!

I also very seldom have 4G - it is 3G 90% of the time. I used to have 4G speeds all the time previous to the last couple of months.

You may need to have a ticket put in for your area. Try turning the phone off then taking the sim card out (right side and you need a paperclip or something small), then put it back in and turn on the device. If that doesn't work try resetting network settings (settings, general, reset, reset NETWORK settings) and after it powers back up if you still have the same issue call #8899 from another Verizon cell phone or 8009220204 and tech support can do troubleshooting and then submit a ticket.

I've been a loyal Verizon customer for years. And their customer service has been a strong factor in what made them good. But something's shifting. In Western, MA every Verizon cell phone user I know has noticed a serious increase in dropped calls, poor signals and hasn't seen a 4G signal in months (often getting 1x) no matter what phone they're using and in locations where they have always had better signals. And what's sad to see, in this forum, is VZW turning it's good customer service into a formulaic shield to mask actually addressing the issue. It's pretty obvious VERIZON has made some high level administrative decisions, probably to increase profit over customer satisfaction and have dropped their level of service. I feel bad for their customer service reps, who are more than likely aware they are just endlessly giving customers the run around when the problem is much larger, systemic and intentional. I think the entity to complain to is the FCC and/or the State Attorney General's Office for Consumer Protection.

K, I agree with everything you have said. I am currently pursuing a complaint with the FCC and urge you and others to do the same. I will try other consumer groups as well. This service level or my Verizon account will end soon.

I use my phone for my business. I used to be proud of Verizon. I could

communicate on my network when the rest of my team were out of contact.

Now?

Verizon's coverage is a joke. I say a class-action law suit is in order if

we can show standing in the law, harm has been done, etc.

I'm not big on suing anyone, but this is insulting.

Yes, I agree. It is not just with Apple, it's with Motorola, Samsung for sure as well. So if you apply logic, it's Verizon. My wife and I got two new phones thinking it was them getting old, but no. Where we are at, 43040, the service was pretty great, worth paying the big bills from Verizon, but now not sure it is worth that anymore. As of three months ago we can't even get or kept a call. Nothing here has changed on our end, or leaves on trees, or building materials changed, or anything else Verizon has learned to blame on bad service. I think they are trying to get new customers with the 5G thing and leaving behind us customers that put food on their table. Its getting old, that is for sure.
