Can music be transferred to a Chocolate 3 without using VCast? How?

I have a new LG Chocolate 3 and I'm trying to add music files from my computer to the phone. Do I have to pay to use VCast Rhapsody or is there some other way to transfer my music files to the phone? I tried connecting the phone to my computer with the USB cable and using Windows Media Player to transfer the music files, but I get 'an error occured' under 'Status' on every file when I click COPY. What am I missing?

Try this, with the USB connected to your phone and the computer....
If the phone connects in Media Sync mode, you can use that to sync playlists. If you want to transfer other files, like videos and pictures, select "Drop" to drop the media sync mode connection.

Now go to Settings and Tools>>>Tools>>>USB Mass Storage (option 9 on my Voyager, not sure what it is on the Chocolate).
The phone should then show up in My Computer as a drive, which you can browse, and copy files to and from. Click and drag, or right click to copy and paste into the phone.

I can connect (My phone shows up on the right side in Windows Media Player), but when I check the songs on the left side and click the 'Copy'button on the top right in WMP it goes through the songs and changes the 'Status' on each song to say 'Ready to copy', but doesn't copy the songs to the phone. On my phone it says Internal Memory and Connected.. How do I get the songs to copy to the phone?
