It definitely isn't the smartest thing anyone has ever done. Although in Oregon you can open carry, so seeing it wouldn't be shocking, it's pulling it out that would be frightening.
Oh, we have open carry most everywhere in my state...but most of us are smart enough to realize that open carry might also lead to an ID check and it's a great idea to keep a CCW permit on your person on the off chance you have to conceal. Besides, most open carry people are also permit owners, and therefore open carry is not needed. Besides, it draws unneeded attention. Still, if you can get shot just for imitating a gun with your hand and finger in a dark alley, no use adding to the risk.
WE are an open, but discrete, carry state. I know, rediculous, huh? (concealed carry is a town permit).
