My voice mail is not updating unless I do it manually. Is there a setting for this?

When I notice that I have a missed call, I have to manually update my voice mail to check for a voice mail and only after I do it manually will the notification activate. If I don't manually update, I have no way of knowing that there is a voice mail. Any thoughts??

You don't happen to have Visual Voice Mail turned on: (taken from link below)

Went on-line and discovered that I had Basic Visual Voice Mail option vs.  Basic Voice Mail option setup.  I changed to the Basic Voice Mail option, which also has the Voice Mail Indicator option (the Basic Visual Voice Mail option does NOT).
