I bought a phone off craigslist and forget to take the sim card out of the one I had before. The one I bought has one in it, but will that work or do I need to get another one since it was on someone else's account?
You'll need a new SIM card. They're free at your local Corporate VzW store (retailers usually charge for them). You also can order one via Customer Service or during the on-line phone activation process.
