LG G4 update breaks notifications!

Myself and a lot of others are in a world of hurt right now. I took the newest update that was release the other day and now I receive no notifications for emails or texts. The Android forums I frequent are full of people complaining of the same issue. This has to be fixed ASAP, we can not be expected to do business or deal with family issues if we can not be contacted. As of right now I have notified my family to call me, but all of my customers can't reach me, or rather I don't know that they are trying.

I performed a factory reset and it did no good. Please fix this major issue!!!!!

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I GUESS THIS IS A WAY TO GET PEOPLE TO BURN THROUGH THEIR DATA. I too have tried a factory reset, and have uninstalled and re-installed several apps with no change. This needs to be addressed quickly.

It started immediately after the OTA on Friday. I don't get any google push

notifications that require data over WiFi. I also don't get push

notifications over WiFi for espn, instagram, twitter. I've tried to

uninstall and reinstall the apps without improvement. Wiped cache, and

factory reset the phone. The notifications come through immediately when

switching to LTE. There are several threads about a similar issue for the

G3 this spring. There is also a new Reddit post regarding this for the G4

I am having the exact same issue. No notifications at all when on Wifi. Three different Wifi networks, and it started as soon as I took the 12A OTA. If anyone had the G3 prior to the G4, you'll recall this is the exact same issue that happened when the G3 first received Lollipop. We had to wait for WEEKS until a fix was rolled out. I am not going through this again. It needs to be fixed, or I want a new phone. If this cannot happen within a reasonable amount of time, I will take my business elsewhere. No more excuses.

I was talking to someone through VZWSupport on twitter, and they stopped responding 2 days ago. I don't know if they thought I would just go away or what. I sent one response yesterday, and another this morning asking for an update, only to be ignored.

I have been with Verizon for 13 years, and it is pretty sad they would treat a long term customer this poorly.

I am also having this issue. As soon as I turn off WiFi all my notifications are pushed through. Need a fix asap or I need unlimited data.

First I thought I had problems with my wifi, but as I tested it with other devices and found this thread it is obvious: the latest software update for the LG G4 from Verizon disables or breaks the push notification daemon for Gmail, Hangouts and WhatsApp, etc.

Once the phone connects to another access point or the Verizon network for internet access, notifications arrive.

Perhaps I am not alone with the following remarks: instead of numerous unwanted and completely useless bloatware packages from Verizon I expect a fully tested software update before its release to the public.

I still believe that LG G4 is a top-notch andorid phone, however its capabilities - including its processor and its battery life - are greatly suppressed by unnecessary and undeletable applications (bloatware). Instead of freeing up its potential the latest update further deepens the problems.

I too am having this issue. Verizon was no help. They just opened a ticket. LG has been more responsive but I have a feeling they won't do anything with the 6.0 release right around the corner. The good news is there is a workaround. I'm not fan off workarounds but you do what you need to do. Download DNSet from Google Play. This changes DNS entries for network adapters setting Google as the primary DNS for both IPv4 and IPv6.

To Verizon - This needs to be a higher priority. We can't understand your complete lack of willingness to help thousands of people affected by your screw up. YES, you made a mistake. And people will forgive you if you fix it. By ignoring everyone, you're damaging your reputation as the best service provider while simultaneously affirming what everyone who has switched to another carrier believes... Your customer service is extremely sub par. Please fix this issue and restore what little faith people have in you as a world class communications company. Be the good guys for once, eh?

This is getting ridiculous, how have we not received a fix for this yet. How about just going back to the previous version or let us exchange this phone for something that will work. I've been carrying my tablet around just to get my notifications. FIX THIS!!!

I too have the exact same issues. I receive no notification while connected to ANY wi-fi network. As soon as I disconnected moments later I get bombarded with notifications/updates/etc..

This is so pathetic neither LG or Verizon has come on here to ensure something is being worked out or any status update! How pathetic it has been over 3 weeks of our phones having broken software without any solution on it's way! What annoys the [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] out of me is that my ALARM.COM app will not work unless my WiFi is off... So if someone were to break into my house I wouldn't even have a warning I would just get a random number calling me and who knows if I would answer it due to me being at work or something...

Totally with you...i used Ring.com and don't get any of these notifications when someone is at my door.

I called Verizon Customer support, they are aware of the issue and the fix needs to be established by LG. They said LG is working on an update but no date has been determined.

I'm 100% positive it is this 12A update. My wife has a G4 on VZW as well, running 11A....NO ISSUES. Verizon Wireless Customer Support

After a lot of complaining and a sympathetic Verizon representative I was shipped a replacement LG g4 without the bad update. The phone is unable to get the update so I assume the update was blocked or removed.

My new LG g4 had been working perfectly.

I just signed up for Project Fi. The complete lack of support from Verizon is getting old. Talking with reps who don't have any useful information in front of them and issues not getting resolved in a timely manner is not acceptable.

Every time I have a issue it either gets escalated with no resolution or a new phone is sent out. I have had 4 phones replaced I think and never has it solved anything.

LG also has no response to my questions. I am done purchasing their products also. I am just glad I didn't purchase the Urbane 2 as that was just shelved right after release with issues. Glad I went with Motorola this time.

Verizon's largest network means nothing to me any longer when there is no support to back it up. For what we pay we should be treated with a little more respect. I will suck up the penalties and my family will move along when my spot with Fi is open.

Sorry to hear about this happening. I also have a G4, so I know how great a phone it can be. I want yours to be great again, too. You're currently set with "All Interuptions" in your phone's pulldown menu? Are there any apps that alert you while on WiFi?

I do have all interruptions checked and apps like snapchat, gmail, outlook off the top of my head are not getting notifocations while on any WiFi

I am sorry Eric but your response is exactly what I am talking about. Every time someone from Verizon comes here on your firums with a response it starts off with a cheesy comment about how sorry the rep is and that you'll do what it takes to fix the issue.

It's as if the reps are instructed to be overly polite to calm the masses and not get down to the root of the problem. This a known bug and has been hashed out in so many forums out there and yet it's as if Verizon and LG tries to hide it from the masses. It is a stupid IPV6 issue and everyone knows it. Verizon and LG made the same mistake on the G3 and that is why the update was pulled. But nothing has been done for us who took it. A hot fix or rollback should have been implemented as soon as possible. Now it's been like 2 months with no resolution yet. On top of all this Verizon will have no problem taking extra money from me this month as I will now be going over my data limit.

I am sorry to come across as so bitter, but I have had it. I am done with Verizon as soon I can be.

You're pathetic vzw_customer_support. Simply put. Not just VZW but both VZW and LG G4 are pathetic for pushing an update out that broke notifications. Then to not offer a roll back option or anything is just terrible. You obviously know how important a cell phone is to your customers now days when generally it cost $80+ a month for 1 person on Verizon wireless and we still pay it. But then you go ahead and ruin the functionality of our phones which I pay $23/mo. for. How can this be right, it is terrible practice in my opinion and your are ruining your customer experience. It takes your "vzw_customer_support" representitive weeks to reply and all they respond to is ONE person of the 10+ people complaining of issues, and your response was so generic and unhelpful. PATHETIC. I feel bad for all of those who continue to use Verizon Wireless if they keep this crap up.

Finally mine is working now also. 4 hours after getting [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] thinking I would also have to wait until the 6.0 drop. It is unfortunate that the customer service on here was unaware of the fix, even just to let us know that they were aware and working on it would have been nice, a confirmed date is obviously hard to stand by.

A word of warning and this may just be a fluke, we will see. I just got off the phone with Verizon support and have a replacement on the way.

Since the update and after doing a factory reset, my phone was extremely sluggish, especially browsing the web on Chrome. The rep I spoke with said the update broke my phone. I have no proof of this and haven't seen anyone else with this issue but wanted to get this out there in case others have this issue and it becomes a bigger problem.

It looks like my LG G4 is getting the Android 6.0 update. It says there is a 947.1MB download waiting for WiFi. Has anyone done the update and can confirm if WiFi notifications still work in this new version?
