How can I make sure my phone will work while I'm in Canada?

We will be traveling in Canada in about a week. How can I be assured that my Verizon phone will work there (although I paid for international minutes through AT&T, it didn't work, which is why I am now a Verizon customer instead). I need an solid answer, please. Do I need to purchase a plan? If so, can I purchase a certain number of minutes, or a month's subscription? If so, how do I manage this? Thanks!

You would need to add International Roaming to your plan. Then I strongly advise you also add a International package for a set number of minutes/texts/data which is bought as a monthly add on charge. You can remove it the following month. Canada and Mexico have better deals than other countries, I believe it is $25 for 500 minutes, 500 texts, and 1 GB data.

On My Verizon, login and select Manage Global and International Plans.

You will want to add an International plan when you click on that link.
