Just got a new phone Saturday and I can't make outgoing calls. Incoming are ok.. what's wrong? Is it the phone? Or me?

I went back into the store and they identified the problem as a bad Sim card.
It's been replaced and all is well.

I do have another question. I can text out however I am unable to see any responses. Only my half of the conversation. Is there a way to change the settings in order to see both?
