StaciP910. That is not true. Do a factory reset and all messaging programs work just fine.

And really, with an update this big, a factory reset is a great idea. Even when upgrading Windows it's always better to start from scratch than upgrade over an old OS.

I'm having this same issue as well on two lines - as we both have upgraded to Lollipop. It won't work with the default app or a third party app. Calling is fine but no texting, not good to see.

Same thing for me! Seriously pissed about this! The main thing I use my phone for is texting, so Verizon needs to address and fix this issue NOW!!

So I hit up the chat representative and their only suggestions was a factory reset (not an option really) and to talk to Sony if that doesn't work - if it's a "mass problem" then they might have to do something. Third party program doesn't work, Messenging doesn't work, Messages+ works but it is the worst SMS app I have ever seen. Clearly there is something in this update that has caused issues with the texting service. So if you read this and you're having this issue post and let Verizon know, maybe they'll help out their customers.

I'm in the same boat. I really don't want to have to factory reset my phone, but if anyone has tried that can you let us know if it was successful?

Ok, I have the same issue. WTF? They make up wait way too long for this update and then something as important as texting doesn't work?

Going to try the factory reset and see what happens.

I think this happened to other users that updated to lollipop on regular Z3's. the solutions they mentioned did not work for me.

1. Clearing all old messages (Settings > Apps > All > Messaging > Clear data)

2. Trying 3rd party apps (only Verizons' Message+ works so far)

That's where I'm at!

I saw other users in other forums from months ago report Textra was working for them and I downloaded it and it is working for me. However, still no joy on Go SMS Pro or Messenger.

Same thing here - z3v just updated, getting the "could not send" error when trying to use regular messenger app. If I use messenger+ I don't even get the option to send (it's greyed out).

Downloaded Textra and it does work, which is a nice work around, though this should be addressed.

OK. Factory reset fixed it.

And the factory reset seems to make all the messaging apps work. At least the three I have tried.

Got the update today and same thing here. No texting with the factory app and I don't want a third party app. That is just idiotic to me

Honestly, this is seriously f'ed up. Factory Reset is not an option for me, nor should it be. And this is not the first Sony Xperia phone they gimped with an update, does anyone else here remember the Xperia Play update fiasco?

From any reputable business, I would expect a patch to fix this, but since this is Verizon, I won't hold my breath.

I noticed the following bugs: Sony's Messaging app broken after update, Tapping on 'software update' in Settings didn't open anything or yield any response ... Also 'about phone' section worked initially after the update, but after a few hours, started to have the same symptom as the 'software update' where Tapping it yielded no response. I also noticed terribly heavy battery drain early on and very false battery recharge estimates reported when plugging the device in (Plugged in at 6% battery said it'd be full charged in 11 minutes) Finally I realized this was either the worst update ever or it was just in heavy need of a factory reset... So I factory reset the device a couple of hours ago and its running smooth as butter and has squashed all the initial bugs.

None at all. I highly recommend a factory reset after this update. It's priority, really if everyone is experiencing a similar issue and for me it was Messaging and a plethora of other bugs so Do the factor reset for sure people

I would also highly recommend to anyone who takes this update (after they do a full factory reset) go to Settings-->About Phone and scroll to the bottom of that list and tap on where it says "build number several times" until you've successfully enabled developer options then go back out into Settings-->Developer Options--> and scroll until you see 'Window Animation Scale' tap on that and set the animation to be off. Do this also for the two options below it. ('Transition' and 'Animator' scaled both set to off)

Doing this will lead to a very noticeable improvement in speed across your device.

I'm having the same problem and really don't want to do factory reset.

I'm not a Version representative but I'd be happy to assist you in a few other options you could try if factory resetting the device is not an option for you.

I think I'm going to live with Textra for now, unless I find more issues. So far just sms.

I bit the bullet angrily and did a factory reset as well. I can confirm that third party programs work after it. I use Go SMS Pro but I also tried Messenger and both were fine. Total nonsense that after they push an update to us - finally - we then have to go through all of this trouble. I wonder if it was even beta tested because all it took was a few hours for how many of us to find out that there were issues with this update. It's one thing to hold updates hostage but another thing entirely to release faulty updates.

Same issue for me here, and hoping not to have do a factory reset. Ridiculous that this is even an issue. It should be one of the most basic regression tests to try messaging before pushing out the update to everyone.

Glad everyone has the issue solved at least that's good news that factory reset has now been proven to resolve the issue for everyone successfully

What I was going to suggest doing if you don't want to have to do a factory reset is to go into Settings-->Application manager and then swipe over to the right twice to display All Apps and find 'Messaging' 'Message+' and Hangouts. For all three of those clear data, clear cache, and clear default if you have one of those three as your default Messaging app. I also want you to DISABLE each of those three apps... And uninstall any other 3rd party Messaging app you are using if that applies. Once you've done that obviously you have no way to receive texts for a minute but that's ok Google play and download Chomp SMS. Open chomp and in the top right menu select "Delete All" make sure you check the box that says include locked messaged even if you don't have any. Now reboot your phone. Go back to settings-->app manager -->all apps and re enable Hangouts, Messaging, and Message + and uninstall chomp if you want... Then test the Sony Messaging app and I believe it will be working. Please let me know... This applies to anyone who doesn't want to factory reset but would like to try and resolve the issue another way.

I went through all the steps you mentioned in the order above, but it didn't change anything (other than that I obviously have no old conversations left on my phone). The Verizon Message+ still works, but the SONY Messaging app doesn't work still

Wow sorry I was really hoping that would do it for you. I have one more thing you can try. In Sony's Messaging app go to settings and turn off allow push messages then try to send a message. It'll probable fail, but reboot once if it does, toggle it back on and see if it'll work then. That's the last thing I can think of you could try, but give it a go.

I got the update pushed to my phone also.

When sending txt messages (if it matters, to other verizon numbers) the Google Messenger app does not display the text I send in the app - however, it is sent.

To see what I am sending, I needed to use Verizon's messenger app (which I hate).

What is going on with this?

My other line is still holding out hope that someone will find a solution that doesn't involve the factory reset. If anyone finds anything that works please post it up in detail.

Hello. Aren't we glad we got ourselves a Lollipop? Well, I did the update Thursday night, everything went fine. This morning could not send or receive texts. Spoke with Tech Support. Came to realize that this OS update will ONLY work with Verizon's Message+ App and not with stock or 3rd party message Apps. Not a bug or glitch, seemingly by design (customized Lollipop features for Verizon network I guess). Good Luck!
