Google will not recognize my valid password on new LG Optimus Zone 3

I've just set up my new phone and can't get into google with my current, valid password that functions OK on other devices. Tried stopping Chrome and restarted phone but that did not work. I've attempted so many times with the device now, is it just locked out? If so, how does one unlock it?
