Samsung Intensity II indicates "battery charging" when, in fact, it is not

The battery indicator on my Samsung Intensity II indicates that the battery is charging even when there is no connected charging going on. It is an old phone, granted, but I'd like to keep it functional until i'm ready to upgrade. any suggestions? I've already checked for software updates and had the phone purged and restarted.
