Any pictures of what the viewing experience is like? I assume it isn't just the same old UI...

I can’t say for sure but I don’t think the UI is any different than the current VMS/IP.

The updates are the voice remote, 4k, and the clients can be wireless. I’m sure the processors in the boxes are faster as well.

One note:

FIOS TV One only works wirelessly with Quantum Router (1100 and upcoming 4100) and Moca WIFI Extenders (not the ORBI).
This is because they use a hidden SSID to connect.

Yea, I am hoping it will suck just a little less than the current one. But it will be nice to have the new tech.

I just upgraded to the FiOS TV One equipment this past weekend, it was a simple equipment swap, make sure to export your DVR series to the cloud first so that you can import them during setup. Unfortunately you have to setup Favorite Channels on the guide from scratch.

I had one small glitch and had to call tech support to correct the port forwarding on my quantum router so that the mobile app could reach the DVR (when the device is not on the same wi-fi network). Tech had this corrected in about 5 minutes and it is good to go.

The user interface is the exact same one from the most recent upgraded experience.

I have the old multi-device remote and was happy that it just worked with the new equipment, no new codes were required. I have not really tried the voice remote. I don't think this remote works to control A/V system power/volume, etc.

I know that blurbs say that the new boxes support 4K but I don't believe that FiOS has any 4K channels here in Pittsburgh, that I know of.

One question that I do have - is the box automatically 4K upscaling standard HD content? The picture quality seems a lot better on standard broadcast and premium channels.

I know this is really a first world complaint - but - there is no clock on the face of the units!!! I am sure it was eliminated to make the units as small as they are, but now I had to go buy a clock.

Wireless STB is a good improvement. But they told me there would be a $50 upgrade fee even if all I did was self-install an additional STB.

No channels are really broadcasting anything in 4k. There have been some limited things but right now the majority or 4k content will be streaming services and VOD.

I’m sure there is definitely some upscaling. Alot of posts on here complained about the VMS boxes on 4k TVs. Glad to hear it looks better.

Just say “DVR” and it takes you there.. or hit the Menu button and access it that way. It’s not that difficult.

You have to go in and change the video resolution to 2160.. menu, settings, audio and video.. select 2160. It upscales.

From my understanding when talking with sales (wanted to see if I could get one) you only incur the $50 technology upgrade fee if you do not already have Quantum TV Equipment (e.i. VMS1100/IPC1100).

I have quantum and the vms1100 with the remote ipc box. I try to order online and it is forcing me to two box rental and premium dvr service and charging me $50. I dont want premium. I am happy with enhanced and one main box and a remote mini one. No way to select it. Chat support was useless. Had no idea what I was asking, just kept saying you get new equipment.

I had FIOS tv one installed today and I have say if you have a newer 4K tv it’s a must. The picture is is much more clearer. I went in changed the the one setting to 2160i

iI had a great picture before but this box is a must have. I have LG 55 4K.

I had FIOS installed yesterday and so far I really like it. As a subscriber I was happy to see a promotion that saved me money since I've been mad that all the deals have been for new subscriber.

I didn't really get it for Netflix since I have apple TV and sure most streamers will be better than the STB. It correctly identified my TV as an LG so the remote works great. Perhaps it's me but I feel like the sound is a little better. The only thing missing is the ability to automatically change to the correct input when you hit a remote button like hitting a button on the Apple remote on inserting a bluray does which would be better than hitting input a few times or using the LG remote.

I was so excited to get these new boxes to get Fios on a different floor of the house without having to run cables. Placing the order was easy although I too didn't understand why I had to pay $50 if I was doing the work but I figure they make us pay for the shipping costs. The boxes arrived about 10 days earlier than expected and the self-install did not go according to the directions. I called and the tech tried for almost an hour to get the boxes set up before deciding there had to be a network or set top box issue and scheduling a tech to come out.

He came today and was able to quickly diagnose the problem and resolve it. It looks terrific and the video and audio quality is good. However, he commented on the age of my house and the fact that I have plaster walls (as opposed to sheetrock). He said that there might be some issues with the wifi going through the house but we've had good wifi for our internet service so he thought it might be okay. Well, it's only okay. Upstairs, when he set it up, he saw that it had some "minor pixelation" at times. I've even had video problems with pixelating and freezing picture in the next room over from the main box. Since I don't waaaatch tv (very often, it's mindless background noise), it's okay but you should just be mindful of environmental factors which can affect the wifi reception to the Fios TV One boxes.

I just upgraded my boxes to FiOS TV One. On my 4K LG TV I noticed by default the box set video resolution to 2160 and it does look pretty good, as others have noted, so I guess it is upscaling. But I have also noticed some slight intermittent audio sync issues on this 4K TV. No issue on my other TV's. The sync issues so far are slight and intermittent. I never had this issue before with this LG TV and my Vizio sound bar and my prior DVR (the older version before VMS). I am thinking the upscaled video maybe cannot keep up with the audio. Both the TV and the sound bar have Audio Delay settings. I tried both but the sync issues still occur. Has anyone else seen this? Any idea on how to resolve? As a test I will try bringing the resolution down to 1080 to see if it helps, but after viewing the 2160 video, I really don't want to drop back down to a lower resolution.

Has anyone who's migrated to TV One comment on the migration of the DVR recordings from the old VMS1100 to the new DVR? Could you move recorded programs from the old to new or is it just like the prior DVR migration, 'so sorry, those recordings are gone'?

Yea, the recording on the physical device and there is not any mechanism for moving them off that device.

The good news is that a lot of content is available for streaming so you should be able to find (though perhaps not as easily) what you need.

No there are not any 4k channels and no they don’t use internet bandwidth. Cost is the same but some on here say there is a $50 upgrade charge. Yes older boxes do still get updates.

Whether you think it is worth getting is up to you. They work exactly the same as your setup now. The main upgrades are 4k, voice remote, and the small boxes have wifi capability. They also have better processors so alot faster.

Although I don't personally have any Alexa devices, I can tell you that there is a section in the settings for the new FiOS one box for configuring Alexa. So the capability appears to be there. I have Google Home devices which does not yet work with the new boxes. But the voice remote works very well for controlling the box also.

Same first impression: picture quality is very noticeably sharper - I have a newer Samsung 4K model which already looked great when I switched to fios from Spectrum and this was so noticeably better than even that, that my 13 year old daughter noticed it without even knowing it was a feature (no placebo effect lol). I also detect better sound processing on my audio equipment.

The remote itself is also a nice upgrade. They’ve simplified it. Echoing another comment, the only thing it lacks is a DVR button but it’s easy just to press the mic button and say “DVR” and it instantly pulls up the DVR (or go via menu). The remote is lighter, much more ergonomic, and lights up just bright enough to see in a dark room but not wake up anybody sleeping nearby.

Also, addressing another post, it DOES control tv and sep audio components. There are pretty straightforward instructions within the menu under voice control-voice remote. It can auto-detect the TV model via HDMI, or you can manually set up if you have audio components and even the manual setup is far easier than the old code-entering method (it’s all automated and keeps testing until you hit the mark, narrowed by brand). It even was able to connect to my 12 year old, out of production B&K components home theater receiver - a rarity in multi-function remotes. And easily connected to my Samsung sound bar in another room.

Big thumbs up from this tech lover. Highly recommend. Easy as can be to set up- uses identical power and cables from last boxes so you don’t even need to use the ones they deliver. And they send a return shipping label making the whole process easy. I don’t mind the 50 bucks one time fee. Just an opinion... pretty cheap upgrade considering no increase in monthly bill for a substantially upgraded experience.

I chatted with Verizon yesterday and asked about the cost of upgrading my current Arris VMS1100 to the TV ONE. He said it would be a one-time charge of $50. When asked if there was an additional monthly charge, I did not get a reply. Here are a list of questions about the TV ONE:

1 - Costs involved to upgrade current Arris VMS1100 Media Server / DVR ?

2 - Can the TV ONE be controlled via Infrared (IR) ? I use a Harmony 650 now and also control using Alexa with an Echo Plus and Harmony Hub.

3 - Can I backup my current Arris VMS1100 DVR and restore the shows / settings to the new TV ONE ?

Yes, there's no DVR button on the new remote, but you can just say "DVR" & it'll bring up your DVR with all your recordings & the menu.

I just received a quote here in Fredericksburg, VA to move to it (7 STBs, 2 DVRs), and the quote is approximately $30 less per month than my current Quantum setup. I haven't decided to make the switch yet, which is why I'm here reading all the reviews, questions and answers.

I am very happy I switched. I would do it if I were you especially if you were going to save $30. It's a no brainer.

Just FYI, with the 4100 boxes as of now all audio is output in Dolby 5 channel regardless of source. There is no 480 pass through, or aspect ratio button on the new remote. There is one HDMI output, one optical audio out and one composite with audio out on the 4100, a dongle to get composite from mini. The 4100 has both RF and IR remote capabilities.

Woops......I thought my savings were going to be $30, and the final quote is almost a $50 savings. Equipment arrived in 3 days, but I want to talk to FIOS Tech about my nightmare COAX setup and my WIFI before I install.

Problem is the new boxes need to communicate with the FIOS router directly because they use a hidden network that can only be seen on the router. So an extender wont work with the mini wireless, unless the FIOS extender is capable of repeating the hidden network.

I've had them since Jan. While I'm glad I saw 4k support I do miss the digital screen in front of the old stbs. New fios one box has no screens in front and the mini boxes for other rooms can be used wireless without need for coaxial cables although I choose to use the coax cable instead of them using the hidden ssid on my router hogging up my 5ghz that I rather my devices use instead. Overall their great and a big improvement the remotes are Bluetooth so no more facing it to the TV you can be in another room and still change channels with remote. Video experience is the same except ui is in 4k but it's not up scaling movies into 4k quality at least not yet

Maybe when movies are in 4k it would say 4k instead of HD when you hit info on what you watching. Overall no complaints here.

Thanks for the review. I'm currently a Fios Quantum customer, internet is great, tv . . . meh. I don't quite understand the upgrade. Verizon has not worked out the bugs in the Quantum tv, audio sync issues and my big complaint, tv's in adjacent rooms, are out of sync/slight delay on the same channel. Inherent problem with the client/server setup that they use, I have been told. I end up turning down audio on one tv. Can client boxes be used with coax? or wifi only? Do the delay/sync issues still exist? I already have Roku 4K capability, not sure how great an 'upgrade' this is, as Verizon never really solved Quantum issues. Will it be more of the same? Improved hardware but they can't really get it dialed in. Thanks, Shawn

Moved to a townhouse complex and got FiOS One installed. So far, so good. Only things that I have had an issue with:

How do you get to the Encore/Starz channels with the voice?

Have an issue of turning off the Samsung TVs. They turn off, then turn on. Sometimes, they will be off for about 5 minutes and then turn themselves back on. Current theory is that maybe some interference is going on or someone has another Samsung TV and I am inadvertantly turning off his/her TV as well and they are then turning theirs back on and turning mine on at the same time... That would be interesting... Has anyone had this issue?

For tuning to channels by voice, I have found that for best accuracy, precede your command with "tune to". Try "tune to Starz" instead of just "Starz". For the remote/ Samsung issue, I have not seen that particular issue but at the beginning I did have intermittent accuracy issues controlling some TVs and there is a way to manually setup the TVs and audio devices as opposed to the default of auto programming. I have 4 different brands of TVs and this was the way to go for all of them.

We just moved to Fios from Cox and have two DVR's with 4 clients. 3 of the clients (mini's?) are coax and one wifi. Somehow the wifi mini lost connection. I can run coax to the box and it works fine but I'd like to get it back on wifi. Anyone know the steps or could point me to online directions? I'll call Tech support but I'd like to troubleshoot it first myself. Also, anyone know how to move a client (mini) from one DVR to another? I'd like to do that as well. Thanks all.

Does your Samsung TV have bluetooth enabled? I'd try turning that off and see what happens. The Fios One remote uses both bluetooth and IR so it should still work.

Click menu. Then Settings, System, FiOS tv one mini settings. Everything should be in there. I think Switch Connections will let you move to another DVR. WiFi connection is where you can configure wifi for the mini. If you have trouble you may have to select Disconnect This Device first.

I agree. The PQ is much better on 4K tv. It even appears to be a little better on older LG TV. Previously had good PQ but both definitely improved. Only installed 3 days and was quick and easy. Only problem was pairing the main vms4100 with the new voice remote on the LG 4K TV.

However the older vms1100 remote works fine with the new TV One (minus voice control). Fios support has been very cooperative working on issue. Looks like I might have a defective remote and being replaced.

Does anyone use a universal IR remote control with these new boxes? Or can confirm that the old IR remotes on the STB/DVRs work with the IR sensor on the One boxes?

I have a fairly advanced setup. I run my own router and have the wifi on the fios router disabled. I also have two units (DVR + STB) in a central closet in the house that I control with URC RF remote controls and IR emitters at the boxes.

So, my plan was simply to swap the existing boxes with the new ones and use the existing Ethernet and Coax (I assume I still need both) to get the uplink to FIOS, HDMI to my matrix switcher next to them, and the IR emitters to continue to use my own remotes.

Anyone see a problem with that?

The new boxes work 100% with the old IR remotes as long as you have line of sight, or an IR blaster. As far as the networking questions, someone else with experience swapping out the Fios router will have to help you. It's not a simple swap.

When you say it is not a simple swap with the wires, what do you mean? Speaking with the online support, they seemed pretty sure it would work with the existing coax and Ethernet. Using WiFi is completely optional. It was the IR they were not sure about.

Regarding the cable boxes I think it is just a simple swap to the new boxes, coax to coax Ethernet to Ethernet. Swapping the FiOS router with your own or using both is more complicated but it sounds like you have that part under control. I have used the old FiOS remote with the new boxes but the new remotes are pretty good so I use them exclusively now. I like the voice feature and that you don't need a direct line of site to the box. The new remotes work nicely with all of my TV's and sound bars. But the old remotes should be fine if you prefer those.

If you try to completely replace the Fios 1100 router you'll run into some serious networking issues. Not that it cant be done, but the Fios router has to be the primary for updates for the boxes. Swapping boxes is simply plug and play, with a dose of setup mixed in.

I just chatted with 'Brittany' who informed me that in order for me to upgrade to FiOS TV One I will also need to upgrade my router.

I currently have the FiOS Quantum Gateway Router that I picked up from Ebay. I wanted to make sure I get something that Verizon was selling themselves so I can get the best experience with the Gigabit internet. Otherwise I would've gotten anything else.

Also, side note, their installation instructions show the TV One being installed with a quantum gateway router. Has anyone heard if this is true? Or just a case of misinformed reps?

Same here.

Verizon is something else I tell you. About a month ago I upgraded to gigabit with a shiny new Quantum Gateway Router since my prior "Red" router couldnt handle the speed. Fine, I use my own WIFI router anyway so I just turn off the Fios WiFi part.

Then I go to order the new STBs which, I thought, was going to keep me at the same price. But, I guess I didnt look closely enough at check-out because what they did was actually un-select the premium channels I was subscribed to. So, it looked my my monthly bill was the same but was in fact going UP by $40 /month which was masked by the automated removal of the premiums. Huh!?

I immediately cancelled the order and figured I would try again and pay closer attention. But, guess what, the options have changed and it would not allow me to place an order without upgrading to the new "Home" router - G3100. Yes, it is an AX router which is a step up from the Gateway AC - yippee. It is only useful IF you have AX capable devices - very few people do. And, of course, they wanted an extra $300 for it.

I called many different FIOS lines and chats and got all kind of different answers. Tech support said that it didnt make sense since the Gateway is perfectly compatible with the Fios TV One boxes. But any attempt to place and order was blocked without order the new router - the sales people can only do what the computer screen show them.

Needless to say, I am still running the old boxes.

Wait until you try to find a Users Guide for the new TV ONE AND REMOTE... and you’ll need one or you will be playing a lot of trial and error like we have... if you find one, please let me know.
