I have a Samsung 6 Series 4K tv and I cannot turn off the hdr even though Verizon does not have any hdr programming
With firmware version 6.8 there is supposed to be an option to turn on and off HDR. Problem is its NOT automatic, so you have to re-enable HDR when the program calls for it. It should be in the video settings menu.
Menu, settings, audio and video settings, video settings, video format: change to 1080.

I have the same issue on my LG C8 4K TV - changing to any of the resolutions does not solve the problem, unfournately, its basically stuck in HDR mode (when obviously the content isn't).
Have you tried changing resolution in the service menu? My 4100 box is set to 4K60, 444 but is not outputting HDR. It IS outputting bt2020 video however which is a wider color gamut than standard 1080 rec709HD. Your TV should be set for auto color gamut or you will be seeing incorrect colors. Maybe your TV is incorrectly reporting the advanced color gamut as HDR?
That is not the Fix! My set is on auto color. All my other devices with HDR, Roku, Ultra Blueray player all detect properly. There is a major problem with the remote box. Does not happen with the DVR. I was on the phone with a Tier3 tech for one hour with no fix. I think the problem sarts when you login to Netflix and watch a program with HDR. Once you go back to TV cable it is stuck on HDR. How do you get into the service menu?
I have this same problem with my Sony TV. Ever since the last update to the mini IPC4100 box, the TV believes that all channels are being output as HDR and changes the TV picture settings to HDR which is a problem.
I have not used Netflix or any other Widget that may have HDR on the box. Is there a plan for a new update or a fix that can be used to avoid this? I have tried all of the regular video settings and multiple re-boots without any resolution.
Hello all please open a ticket with tech support. They know nothing about 4k tech. They jumped in prematurely to keep up with other venders. Once again I was on the phone with a senior tech and he concluded that it was my tv and they have not heard any complaints? I told him to check my acct notes from a month ago. The senior tech who worked with me and opened a network ticket. He actually told me to turn off CEC on theTV. I told them the latest firmware caused this major problem!

Service menu: power off at box, menu 2x on remote, should see menu with white bkgd. Left arrow, select user, go in there and you should see options, some more in additional HDMI options. Don't know if anything there will help. Don't have a 4k TV on mini, only main box. Sony TV, no HDR issues with that. Don't know of any way to revert to previous firmware.
Thanks, I will try this but I don’t think this command works with new mini. I think the first tech I worked with had me try it. The only way I stopped the HDR was to set the video res to 1080P. Unplug, and take off Coax cable reinstall power back up and it stopped sending HDR. If I change the res back to 4k the HDR is forced again.
What's the impact?
It doesn’t work. Unless people start to complain about the obvious problem Verizon will never fix it!
To try and sum this up:
For people who have 4K Televisions with HDR support, people are seeing HDR enabled even on content that is SDR (like live broadcast) and some people are having issues with color pallete. For some people it stays in 4K/HDR or a bad color mode after watching relevent content, for some people it was that way since the update. Some people have found lowering the resolution to 1080p resolves the issue but not for everyone. Some people found rebooting the cable box resolves the issue but not for all, and also it seems to mainly be affecting the Fios TV One Minis.
Is there anything I might have missed?
Sounds like you got most of it. I want to add that when I turn off my Auto HDR setting on my TV that only should be activated when a true HDR 4k signal is received the colors are completely washed out. And when I put the resolution to 1080p and unplug the device when I boot up again the colors are washed when set to 1080p on the mini. The second I change back to 2160p HDR is activated again on my tv and stays on even if I set the res to 480p.
This is also being discussed on the DSL forum.
I just want to add, I did not see anybody mention when you lower the resolution it fixes the problem? Only fixes it when you totally boot the system but before you do this you have to set the TV to 1080P. When you boot back up the color in 1080P is washed out. This was not the case before the latest Firmware push.
Hi same issue. My primary Fios One box was working fine. Then, fo runrelated reason, a tech came and swapped that one with the Mini box that was attached to a different TV.
The mini will only output In HDR. Tried resetting, etc. Tech support had no idea. They are sending a tech out to replace the box...we'll see..
Hello I replaced the box and the same thing happened! Good luck. At least now a field tech can report on it. Keep us posted.
Hello All,
We apologize for this inconvenience. This has been referred to our engineering team who is testing and investigating the issues reported on this thread. Thank you for letting us know.
The team has advised that they are currently working on a fix to this issue but have not provided an ETA.
I will let you know once I hear from the team. Thank you for your patience as we work on a fix.
Nilsa
Thank you Nilsa for letting us know.
Same issue here on my mini. Reset the box didn’t help. Switched to 1080 didn’t help. Turned off HDR on my Sony and picture is totally washed out. When my Sony reads that the signal is HDR I have horrible light blooming.
Hi Nilsa,
Any update from the team on a fix?
Thanks!
🙂
Having same problem with my lg oled.... hdr stays on all the time on every channel with my mini only....called Verizon and they have no clue what hdr is and are dumb.
Branch on DSL Reports forum says there is a firmware update due in June, maybe fix will be in that.
Just my luck. I buy a new TV (lg b8 oled) and have the same issue. The TV sees every signal comimg from the wireless mini as an HDR signal no matter what settings I change. The colors seem off. Tonight I plan on hooking up an OTA antenna to compare against fios to see how bad it really is. (It looks pretty bad versus how good netflix and Amazon Prime look.) Hopefully Verizon will provide status on the fix and estimated date. Thank you
HDR on mini is apparently a known issue. Try turning HDR off on TV and see if it all looks normal, and only enable HDR when watching something that actually is. For now, that may be the only fix.
I was able to get the mini to stop sending the HDR flag to my LG B8 oled. If I recall the steps correctly, I first set the mini at 1080p (figuring that the tv will do a better job with the 1080p signal than the mini upscaling it). Then I "disconnect this device" on the mini settings menu. The mini reboots and the HDR flag no longer pops up/displays on the tv. However I had to do this twice because after the first time I toggled on and off an HD deep color setting on the tv and the HDR flag started appearing again. I left the tv deep color setting on and disconnected the mini a second time. No more flag, at least for now.
Not sure if it is related or not, but now I can't view mini wifi status. The menu button is there, nothing happens when I select it. I dont really want to unplug or disconnect the box again for fear the HDR flag will return.
Question, does anyone know if when the mini connects to a verizon wifi extender (instead of the gateway router) that the wifi status fails to display?
Thank you and I hope this helps someone.
So, the latest 6.6 update actually seems to have made things worse. It is now stuck in Dolby Vision for all content, and the Dolby Vision picture modes are worse than just the "normal" HDR picture modes.
Don't have 6.6 here yet, so im sorry to hear its more problematic than the previous one. That was supposed to be fixed.
I'm having the same problem with a brand new Vizio PQ65-F1. All linear programing channels are being tagged as "Dolby Vision" and the TV is interpreting it that way - imposing a "Dolby Vision" picture mode on SDR content, with highlights/whites completely blown out. The Vizio stores each calibration table separate - SDR, HDR10, DV, HLG and uses each mode based on detecting source content.
I tried calling Verizon customer service last Friday, but was on hold for 75 minutes having to listen to that insipid "sorry, all our representatives are busy..." every 30 seconds (150 times). Went to the web site and "chatted" with someone later that same day and the "fix" was to send me a replacement wireless box. Got that Saturday and I swapped them out on Sunday and as I suspected, it made absolutely no difference. Thing is, I have 2 sources being routed through my Denon receiver to the Vizio on HDMI 1 (ARC) - the Verizon mini and a 4K Roku unit. The Vizio is set to Full UHD Color on that input and the 4K output on the Denon is set to "Enhanced" (supports high quality 4K 60p 4:4:4, 4:2:2 or 4K 60p 4:2:0 10 bit video signals). The Roku correctly interpreted each Amazon Prime media source based on content, whether it was 1080 or 4K with no HDR ("normal"), or HDR 10 etc., but haven't seen anything yet on Amazon Prime with Dolby Vision to see if it picks up on that correctly.
If I set the Verizon menu resolution to 2180p (which would appear appropriate for a 4K TV), it reads all cable channels as "Dolby Vision" and the graphics are so bright white, it almost hurts your eyes looking at it. If I change the Verizon setting to 1080p (which is totally counterintuative for a 4K TV), the Vizio reads it as "normal" (which is as it should be for at best, 1080/non-HDR cable channels). As opposed to the Roku unit and for whatever reasons, Verizon is not discriminating it's source material based on HDR content. Not an expert in these areas by any means, but enough to know that Dolby Vision is a "source specific" HDR platform - you can't just blanket impose it on all SDR media.
I'm still playing around with it all to see if keeping the Verizon 1080p setting will allow other 4K and/or HDR streaming sources (like either through Fios On Demand or Vizio's Chromecast portals) go unaffected by that lower resolution setting on a 4K TV. I find it hard to believe that Verizon isn't aware of this (or worse, is doing nothing about it - how can they not see it?). I'm open to the possibility that it could be a problem with my setup, but I highly doubt it, mainly based on the fact that it's not happening with the Roku unit - just with the Verizon box. I tried "chatting" again earlier today about it on the Fios site, but they just go through their decision tree instructions (which included me getting new HDMI cables or setting up the mini on another 4K TV, which I don't have) and was a total waste of my time. Very frustrating...
That behavior was happening with the mini boxes before the 6.6 updates. Make sure your mini has the 6.6 update. I have a Sony 4K TV, and a Roku and a Denon receiver, but do NOT have the issue you are having. Don't know about the menu on the Vizio, but on Sony there is a setting to allow auto selection of HDR, type of HDR, and color space. My Sony is set to auto and properly sets the correct Video standard, and color space from both the Roku and the Verizon box. The only HDR on Verizon right now comes from Netflix, possibly a show or two on the 4K channel. YouTube on Verizon is not HDR yet, regardless of the source. Can you set the TV to manual color spaces? If so try setting to rec709 for everything except 4K, which should be bt2020 color, and either HDR 10, HLG, or Dolby Vision according to source. As I said, 6.6 was supposed to fix that, I can't say for sure from personal experience.
@clem53
Thanks much for the feedback. I'll have to further explore the HDR options on the Vizio and color space options as you indicated (and also check out the mini firmware version). The fact that you also have an Denon and a Roku and not having this issue leads me to wondering about the Vizio. The other oddity is that when the "Dolby Vision" icon shows up on the Vizio settings menu, it doesn't look like it's internal to the Vizio - it's like a superimposure in the spot where it would be if internal (e. g. "HDR 10" shows up in the norma Vizio font), so really not sure where it's coming from. Thanks again for the feedback...
Forgot to add some on-demand programming is also 4K, some also HDR. The problem you describe only seemed to happen when someone watched 4K HDR on Netflix with a mini. Somehow that triggered the permanent HDR issue you erer seeing, and only with the mini. The VMS boxes weren't affected. Like I said, the 6.6 update was supposed to fix that. Can't say because I don't have Netflix. Also make sure all video processing is OFF on the Denon. That weird overlay almost sounds like it could be coming from that. I've never seen any HDR overlay from Verizon.
Hi, any updates on a fix for this bug?
Thought this got fixed by the 6.6 update. Please go to settings, system info and make sure the box has updated to firmware 6.6.
I’m still having the same issue still and the mini is firmware 6.6! This is not acceptable. It’s been months! Fios admin please give an update or some kind of solution. My tv is a Sony z9d.
TV? the problem here for a direct line to Verizon technicians:

I just got Fios one and 3 minis a couple of days ago. I have the DVR and 1 mini connected to 2 Sony X930D displays, one 65 and one 55 (mini). While setting up boxes and tweaking video settings, I first noticed the 3D problem that all of them have with HBO 3D selection. Then, I proceeded to play with Netflix, even though I have it on the TV, the fios boxes are hard wired so as not to eat WiFi bandwidth I’d prefer to use the Fios box. After an impressive HDR experience, I found the issue with getting stuck in HDR mode.
First I adjusted all of the HDMI inputs on the TV to not have enhanced settings for HDMI turned on or on auto, I turned them off. Then I changed the fios box resolution to 720. Then I played Netflix in 720. Then I tried each resolution higher one at a time to see if HDR came back but I was able to get all the way back to 4K with no problem so for now it seems to be fixed. I’ll stick to Netflix on the TV system for now. But I suggest trying that sequence to reset the boxes output.
I still expect the quirk, and the 3D issues, to be fixed though. I had to pay a $50 activation fee, goswap the boxes and do the self install, for the privilege of losing my 3D service and having integration issues. Seems like 2 issues that should have been caught before a product rollout, pretty basic.
Check the boxes to see which firmware level they have. 6.6 was supposed to fix that, but they are in the process of rolling out 6.7 now, depending on which VHO you are in.
I have a mini stuck in DolbyVision any attempt to reset either has it stuck in HDR or DolbyVision. Firmware is 6.7 hooked up to a LG Oled B6.
If I turn off HDR(deep color on a LG) the mini forces it back on.
Only way to get out of DolbyVision/HDR is to set resolution to 720p, which is completely outrageous. Any help would be great...thanks.
Same issue here. Just got my fios one boxes today. DVR set to 2160p resolution in my living room is SDR as it should, but the mini box connected to my samsung QLED in the basement is forcing HDR when set to 2160p. Only way to get it off of forced HDR is to set the resolution to 1080p, then it displays properly. I have HDMI UHD color off for the fios one mini input, but it still forces HDR. Running firmware 6.7 so this is not fixed. Pretty lame...should have just cut the cord and went with hulu live.
Please report this situation here for further help:
Still an issue with new firmware 6.8...has anyone found a fix yet?
Same here got both mini and tv one box and my picture looks horrible!! Stuck on HDR no matter what I do!!!
Just checked, and YES! This fixes the issue on the one mini where it was forcing HDR when resolution is set to 2160p. Turned HDR off, set TV to 2160 and no HDR! Thank you so much. I was just in the video menu yesterday and completely missed the HDR setting.
I had the forced HDR on fios one mini issue on my samsung qled, and was able to resolve it by hitting the HDR toggle on the box after firmware update.
I have since bought a new TV (lg oled) and now there is a different issue. If the resolution on the one mini is set to 4k, it forces BT2020 colorspace on the TV which is wrong. Only way to get the proper colorspace is to set resolution to 1080p. Deep color is turned off on the fios hdmi input. Anyone else have this issue? As long as 4k resolution is selected and hdr is off, it still thinks its hdr.

Try turning off the auto colorspace on the LG TV.
ah right, forgot to mention I am using auto colorspace...ill see if this makes a difference and report back, thanks
Still forces BT2020 if i change color space and the fios mini is set to 4k. As soon as I switch the fios mini to 4k, i get a popup on the TV that an HDR signal has been detected and it auto activates HDMI Deep color (HDR)
I have toggled HDR off and on on the fios mini, and it still is forcing HDR when the resolution is set to 4k. I have it set to 1080p right now to avoid HDR
Didnt have this issue on my samsung qled...

You turned off HDR in the Fios box menu and it still activates HDR on the TV even though you set the colrospace on the TV to REC 709? It has to be an issue with the TV in that case as you should be able to manually select the colorspace on the TV without it overriding your choices. Check again on the TV and make sure any Auto colorspace settings are off, and REC 709 is the chosen colorspace. Also check in the general menu of the TV , under HDMI inputs to disable HDMI deep color on the HDMI input for the Fios box. There may be an issue with the LG setting itself to deep color any time there is a 4K signal detected with this option selected.
