Down 74 hours and counting.
My email is now back, however no explanation why it was deleted for 3 days in the first place. This is lame customer service, however the norm for Verizon in my experience. And they wonder why I don't switch over to their FIOS.
All folders seem to be back, as of about 11am.
77 hours and counting. I called tech support (India) and complained. The man talked to billing and told me I would receive a credit. He transferred me to billing and they applied a $10 credit to my account.
I got my emails back this morning, and the Verizon notice said that about 1/3 of lost emails had been restored as of this morning All should be done by tomorrow night (Friday night , Oct.5.).
verizon.com/outage.
This is my first time experiencing this problem with FIOS. I am terribly dissapointed. Not sure if I can trust them with my information in the future. They should at least give us an update either by automated phone or emails. I am afraid of not having all my folders restored. Some very important information and pictures are lost. This is a lesson learned - to back up everything.
I am still missing everything, not one of the lucky ones who has gotten their folders and email restored. I tried to click on the link to track their progress ealier in this thread and it tells me it is a bad request. I can't even check the progress. If they said it will be restored by tomorrow then I will hold out hope for then
All -
Since I freely criticized VZ when I lost access to all of my email folders, --- I must give credit where "credit is due". All of my folders and emails have now been restored (whew)! I live in southern (NJ) in case that is of any use to those of you who are still awaiting restoration. Good luck to all (and let's see if VZ adjusts our bills)!
Thursday at 4:45 pm I logged in and was shocked to see all of my folders and emails prior to Oct. 1st. I will be the 1st to admit that I thought my emails were gone forever and all of my business agreements and contacts would never re-surface.
By today, my expectations were so low and I had truly accepted that my info was lost forever. So it was funny to me after I found out my old emails had been restored that I found myself thanking Verizon outloud in the privacy of my own home!
For those that truly lost hope--hang in there!! You may find yourself thanking Verizon too!!
I hope Verizon takes the time to review all of our posts...I think the common theme from all of us is that there was a huge lack of communication on Verizon's part. 1-2 generic updates in a day in a place on their website that was hard to find was not enough for their consumers. It wasn't until today that they assured all customers there emails/folders would be restored and that is not acceptable.
After they are finished restoring lost data to the remaining affected customers, I hope they explain what happened Monday morning. If they do not, I will be w switching to another provider for all of our services.
OK, you'll love this one!
Today, 10/4/12 4:22pm I got a Police Alert - missing 91 yr old Alzheimer's patient....he went missing 9/30/12 and has already been found THANK GOD......
no notiication on Messages button on my Fios Router on TV
no notification on Landline phone VZ also
no notification on Wireless phone VZ Wireless
so where was the communication with their customers???????????? homing pigeons might be next
Hey Adam,
Thats nice...i think Verizon aught to apply at least a $50 credit to every customer affected by this outage....since we continue to pay for service, yet are not getting it....that said....
What measures is Verizon taking to PREVENT this from happening again, and you owe us an explanation of what happened and why....
All I can say is I am BEYOND frustrated here! Obviously I wasnt in that first 1/3 group as I still have nothing. A day or two was bad enough but I held on. Now it's way beyond an incovienience here. Important information that I cant get to - that's affecting serious things in my life - not just an email from a friend or anything like that. My childs important school stuff, financial, etc all have become time sensitive here!
and the posting update just doesnt cut it -
"Our sincerest apologies go out to all customers that have been affected by this event.".
Ya, an apology aint gonna help anymore!
What rights do we have as consumers here to fight back on this?
Received message from Verizon about the outage and the fact that they are working on restoring email folders. They gave a link to check on outage email folder restoration THAT DID NOT WORK! Has anyone heard anything else about the folder restoration.
I have been told every day since Tuesday (10/9/12) that it is a "nationwide outage". I can't access any email except those received prior to Monday night at 9 PM.....not a happy camper. If not restored by tomorrow I will be cancelling all Verizon service.
More than 3 and a half days and counting. I called tech support (India) and complained. The man talked to billing and told me I would receive a credit. He transferred me to billing and they applied a $10 credit to my account.
Please hang in there! I woke up this morning and found everything restored! I was losing faith but they actually got it all back! Sending positive vibes to everyone!
my email is back this morning too. Finally
4 days and still no E-mails. I called tech support (India) 2 days ago and complained. The man talked to billing and told me I would receive a credit. He transferred me to billing and they applied a $10 credit to my account.
Outlook user here, and my emails that never showed up from 10/1 when this all went down are now there in my Inbox. To all of you who are still missing your emails/folders, I hope they get restored soon.
Thanks Verizon for working on this, although I agree with others it would be a good idea to improve communication regarding these problems, such as a status notice/update on the website or message on the phone line.
My email went down on Monday. Old emails and folders were missing all week -- restored mid-morning eastern time zone today.

jessm78, thanks for that bit of information. I also have no evidence that I lost incoming mail on 10/1, and have also regained my saved messages.
Many thanks to the Verizon engineers in the trenches who got this all put-back-together.
Hi All-

Well, I had all my old e-mail back, but they disappeared again within three hours. Anyone else having this problem?
OK, I called BILLING to get a partial refund and was told "email is free '!
Asked to speak with a supervisor. They offered $2 off @ month for next 12 months as a Customer Convenience Refund!
NOW, I've lost FIOS channels 115, 53, 4xx, 5xx random channels tell me I need to click OK to Subscribe??#$$%^@!
4 days plus 11 hours and still no E-mails. I called tech support (India) 2 days ago and complained. The man talked to billing and told me I would receive a credit. He transferred me to billing and they applied a $10 credit to my account.
4 days plus 14 hours and still no E-mails. 3 hours ago, tech support (India) told me restoration of all E-mails had been completed. Since mine have not been restored, I assume I will never see them again.
An Internet "chat" support rep just told me it will take another 12 hours to restore E-mails.
HELLO IS ANYBODY HERE???? I went to bed Thursday night looking at all of my lost folders only to wake up the next morning and EVERYTHING was gone again, in Garland,TX...PLEASE GIVE ME BACK MY FOLDERS???
