All,
Verizon is rolling out new vod menus.

Scanning premium channels for movies is terrible. The poster view is great for folks that prefer to spend more time searching for a movie than watching one. Preferably a list format that you could scroll through quickly and see brief description of film, year, and actors would be a fantastic option for me. Keep it simple and fast.
So they've taken a bad design and made it worse. Thank you verizon
This new OnDemand menu is horrible! I cannot find anything. Everything is represented by huge "icons" that often don't even have the title unless you scroll to it. It is slow, cumbersome, limited, and horribly arranged. The remotes are not durable enough for the amount of button pressing needed to scroll through the entire catalogue just to find one program. Maybe (and that's a BIG maybe), maybe this might have some usefulness if you know exactly what you want to see and can use the arcane letter-by-letter search, but even then it's maddeningly tedious. Premium networks and the TV/Movie industry should be notified that many of its programs and movies are going unseen simply because customers are too frustrated with a clumsy menu system and give up. This is by far the worst cable "on demand" system I have seen. It's even worse than Comcast's. It's a total and complete failure.
Total fail. Undo this.
They are on twitter, hit them up: @verizonfios
This isn't like Windows Vista or 8, you have the option of rolling back with Windows systems. We don't have that option. I wish we did. This new OnDemand menu system is like replacing WindowsXP with ME, a complete disaster. Simple, elegant text lists are much better and easier to scroll through. This icon/poster based system stinks.
I hate the new On Demand layout. It's very difficult to follow, and it takes forever to find shows (only two rows of content are displayed at a time) and to exit. Then, they sneak in TV series EPISODES that you have to pay for! Please go back to the old format and seperate the shows that are "free" versus the ones you have to pay for. We pay over $200/month for Verizon Fios -- stop nickle-and-diming us.
BATTERY warning to customers. The battery on our Verizon in-home box (the main unit, not the router) recently died. Verizon charged us $50 to replace it. It's their equipment!
Batteries are user responsibility.
Just like if you lease a car.
Certain things are your responsibility.
You can get batteries for a lot cheaper and do it yourself.
I used to be able to drill down alphabetically easily. Now once you get to the TV shot listing, I have to "arrow" across tons of graphics. If my program begins with a letter late in the alphabet, it takes forever. Why did you have to switch from the Alphabetical ranges (i.e., A-D, E-G, H-N, etc.) designations?
Just got updated to the new menus. Everyone needs to leave Verizon. It's the only thing that's going make the wastes of life that did this understand that this crap is absolutely unacceptable. Switching providers ASAP.
Just dropped Verizon for cable. Trying out Playstation Vue. I suggest everyone do this. The only thing Verizon is good for is to be a "dumb pipe," i.e. internet. The plan I had was running about 220 a month. It's now about 90 for just internet. PS Vue is 65 and that includes HBO, Showtime, and any other channel thats worth watching, without subsidizing the channels that only a total of 100 people in the U.S. watch. It also has DVR capabilities and you don't need a playstation console for it.
PS Vue isn't the only option; DirectTV and Sling are comparable to it. They all have free trials so you can try them out. Just got to remember that Verizon is large enough that it doesn't need to give a crap about its customers, so the only recourse we have is to hit them where it hurts. I was willing to pay a little more for the convenience of having everything in one place, but they took it away. So the inconvenience of switching things around is definitely worth it to be able to flip them the proverbial bird.
Hate the new VOD menu. It was always clumsy, but now it takes forever to find what I want. The search function has improved, but that assumes I know the name of the program I'm looking for. If I don't and I need to browse, it klunky, slow, and very inefficient. For example, I can't just see a list of programs currently on NBC, or FX. I can go to the network, but I can't page down, I need to scroll over pics of each program until I find what I'm looking for. The scrolling is slow. Movies are just as bad. I used to have Xfinity, and their VOD was always easier to use, but now Fios is even worse. Maybe I should change providers again.
I heartily dislike the new On Demand Format. It talks longer to find things and some of the features of the old format are gone. New is not always better.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. New on demand interface is not user friendly. It's a hot mess. Hard to maneuver through. The fonts are TOO light and hard to see, they need to be bolder. There wasn't anything wrong with the old on demand..you could find stuff and actually see it. Big fail Verizon but, I don't expect you to once again listen to your customers.
This new on demand menu is horrible - it takes forever to find shows and get hrough the menu. Someone please let me know how to get the old version back - Does anyone test these new interfaces - terrible!!!
Just tried to use the new format and I have to say that it is a complete mess! So confusing and clearly designed to drive the user towards buying more...and certainly not finding what you are looking for. I am so furious that I am seriously considering breaking my contract and dropping FIOS. What were you thinking? Did you not even test this with your users? Obviously the answer is no!
I cannot believe that the Verizon people think that the new On Demand Menu is an IMPROVEMENT?? I have been told that it was developed to be more "user friendly!" I would like to see the definition of that! It now takes me NINE steps to do what I was previously able to do in THREE steps. Is this improvement??
I agree with comments about unfortunate changes to on demand. It is much slower to use, especially since page up/page down controls no longer work. You now have to index up or down one at a time. Awful to go through network menus that way.
The New VOD menu is absolutely terrible! It is impossible to find what you are looking for and it is a complete waste of time. I no longer can use this function. Did know one test this before rolling it out? Please undo this change or at least provide an option for customers to go back to the old layout.
The new on demand menu is extremely slow and difficult to navigate. Where are the lists of programs? Why do we need to scroll through pictures for everything? Previously, I was able to use the channel up/down button on my remote to scroll through 10 programs at once in a list. Is this still possible? ...am I missing something?
I agree the new VOD is horriblr
I agree. New on demand menu takes twice as long to find programming. Why would they go back instead of foreword. Thinking about going back to Comcast if not fixed
Yes, the menu is awful - as is the regular DVR menu. I hate how it just ends playback of a recording and takes you to live TV. Now I have to go back into DVR recordings screen and hunt for the episode i just watched and hit the little red button. Talk about walking backwards! And why can't the info button give you program info? I like to use that to check the air date and see if I want to watch it.
All I ever really wanted was the ability to watch DVR recordings on my phone. Now they screwed up the menus too 😞
What model DVR do you have?
I have quantum. FOr me, when a program ends, it goes to the menu that allows me to delete, play, save, etc.
Hitting the info button gives me program info except episode numbers. But that only happens while playing the show.
And I haven't seen any change to FIOS app menus for watching DVR recordings.
I have an adroid if that makes a difference.
Agree with everyone, this is a horrible experience. I could not find any recent boxing event on demand for instance. In the past it was so easy and user friendly. I called their support several weeks in a row (in phillipines apparently) and they were not able to help. I asked each time to be transferred to a manager, and they kept me on hold and eventually dropped the call (i guess they dont get paid if they transfer to a manager).
It feels like they hired a UX designer from Netflix or Amazon Prime, but unfortunately one that did not understand how functionally different cable television and it's offerings is. Sadly, I suspect someone or group paid a bundle to implement this disaster, and so it will stay and be spun as success, or heads will roll.
Well I did the only thing I could do, I canceled my $240+ monthly payment and got basic, not premium...in protest. If this does not get rolled back, I will cancel my subscription all together.
The new VOD menu is fantastic. The old one was a disaster. The new one is nice and slow. Like a game where you press laggy buttons a million times. Why play flappy bird when you get the frustration for free from Verizon vod? And who needs page scroll? That is so 2016. Browse premium?. no problem. Now you can do it in two places.. tv and movies. These Verizon developers are top notch. Ignore the haters.
If the old one sucked: This new online listing not only sucks, you are unable to to get to anything. It tells you it is unavalable at this time.
The new On Demand menu is a poor substutiute for the old one. The catagories in the old system were much easier to navigate. While there is a 'free' tab under the 'Movies' section, there is no such tab under the TV section. As a result, if I'm looking for the latest episode of "Timeless" on NBC, I must now scroll through 10+ screens of old unwanted "Available to Purchase' cancelled series in order to reach the show I want to see.
Please, revise this new system to better reflect the old. Besides a search tab, the only additional drop downs you need are Movies, TV and Premium. Then each of those will have the Free section, Pay section and the alphabetical list of networks.
The old system was uncomplicated and the new one needs to follow that guide.
I cannot believe this particular system has gone from bad to much, much worse. Using the thumbnail icons takes much longer and the time spent just navigating to them is downright unbelievable. Just how many times do you have to push OK to finally get to a particular program only to find out that with this new system just about everything (even CURRENT seasons of regular TV shows) cost additional money, even PBS!!! Really Verizon, even PBS? You've got to be kidding!! I never knew just how good things were having Comcast (yes, I paid a little more BUT THEY DIDN'T TRY TO NICKEL AND DIME ME TO DEATH every time I wanted to watch something). So, therefore, if I actually watch what I truly want, Verizon will be much more expensive per month than Comcast. I woulld be very interested to see how your new and grossly under improved system works out for you in the future. I cannot wait for my contract to expire.
I agree, Verizon screwed us over when they chaged the menu for movies to show stupid pictures. The new menu is way more complicated and it takes 400 button pushes to get to the same place I used to take 4 if I can get there at all. I tried looking for Marvel ASgents of Shield and it didn't even come up as a selection. I had to use the B button to get to it and even there it was more complicated. On top of the complication, the pictures take forever to load. Verizon should go back to test base and once you make a selection then bring up a picture.
