WiFi

Hello, Have had my Motorola Droid 2 for nearly a year now. The WiFi has never really worked well on this device so I just ignored it until more recently. It will connect to my home WiFi but will not communicate with the internet. My home network is using a Belkin 802.11G wireless router with WPA/WPA2 TKIP security. I have tried just about every conceivable solution but this device simply will not connect to the internet reliably. Once in a while I can get it to work but when I turn off the wifi and come back to it it will not connect to the internet. Even the GB update failed to provide any relief. I believe it is related to the security on the router but I can't prove it one way or the other. Any suggestions?

I'm jumping on this post here with you. I've had the same problem. My D2 has never worked for WiFi either. Not before nor after the GB update. It didn't do it out of the box. I'm stating that before one of the VZW reps comes on and says to do a factory reset because I'm NOT doing that. It's NOT a 3rd party app because if it is, it's one of the bloatware they added to the phone before I got it. I tried doing the WiFi thing before I even loaded an app on my phone. I shouldn't have to totally wipe out everything on my phone now when it didn't work in the first place. Sorry. I'm not trying to sound snarky but a factory reset isn't the answer for everything. (I've been on the Motorola site too and the factory reset hasn't fixed the problem there either.)

When mine didn't work, I did a lot of searching around on the 'net. I found a lot of things say that it was a Froyo problem. I also found things saying that it was a Motorola issue. I read that the D2 needed to "see" a G router to run. Yeah, tried all that. The biggest thing I read was the Froyo issue and that GB was going to fix it. Well, it didn't. So, here I wait. Got a phone that hates WiFi. *sigh* Ain't it grand?

Hi,

Have you tried to turn off your home wifi's security temporarily and see if you can connect? If it connects without security, then it does sound like an operating system software glitch. Does it connect to other wifi access points, ie public hotspots such as work or school or wherever you might can access one? Hopefully someone can come up with an answer for you that helps.

Thank you to those that have responded. I believe that I have resolved the WiFi connection issue. I stopped at my local Verizon store and they gave me an 866 number to call that was a higher level tech support line. After a number of troubleshooting steps and tests we concluded it was not the droid. He then pulled in a Motorola tech person (conference call) to conduct a few more tests. In the end we determined that my droid was not authenticating on my network. Apparently the droid 2 is not fond of WPA+WPA2. Set it to be strictly WPA-PSK TKIP and all was fine. Thanks to the Verizon tech for pulling in the Motorola tech. A year old problem finally solved! Hopefully this will help others too.

I could kiss you. Finally had time to play with my router at home and changed my router settings and changed them to a WPA/WPA2 PSK setting and my Droid 2 is FINALLY connecting to my home network. I nearly fainted last night when it happened! I was able to finally download the apps that were "WiFi only" downloads.

Ok if this solves my wifi issues I am going to be thrilled. I have been on the Moto support forums and no one has a good answer for me. I know my access point is using mixed WPA/WPA2. Thanks for the post!!

Ok, Here's a tissue! Glad this worked for you. I have had many devices authenicate properly on my network using mixed WPA-psk+WPA2-psk but the droid seems to only recognize WPA-PSK. Let's keep our fingers crossed. :-*
