This Ice Cream Sandwich is frozen solid... not in a good way...

So I got the ICS update OTA a couple of hours ago and I already ran into a myriad of issues.

First, the update was still going after over 2 hours, which from what I heard from other folks, isn't normal. Battery pull fixed it (seemingly).

Next, Gallery and Music is having problems loading any of my files (yes, even ones I just took with the camera after the update). It constantly force-closes on me.

Also, Smart Dock pretty much went dumb on me as it won't even go to the clock at all (after selecting Bedside) and just force-closes.

Additionally, it seems the battery consumption is extremely fast, even with an extended battery (went from full to 60% in just over an hour). Even while charging, it has difficulty getting to full charge.

So right now, I'm not too happy with the update. I'm hoping the phone fixes itself by the time I wake up tomorrow, but I don't think that'll happen. I guess the only saving grace is the fact I'm overseas and not really using the phone to make calls, coz who knows what other issues I'd run into.

I tried pulling it on my Bionic but i'm seeing 'No update available', guess not all customers have access at this point.

Updates are done in a rolling fashion, so they are pushed to customers' phones in waves. It can sometimes take a few weeks before everyone has it pushed to their phone.

That was me. Sometimes what people think is supposed to be a much-anticipated improvement, isn't, whether it be cell phone OS or whatever.

Have you tried backing everything up and doing a factory reset? I've heard that that clears out old OS settings and alleviates some issues when moving to a new OS.

I'm actually weary out doing the factory reset since i have a lot of apps on my phone that i could lose. But i might get to the point where i may not have any choice. =(

Same issue here. Music and Photos are intact on the SD card. I can access them via Windows Explorer on my PC. However, the phone can't seem to find them. The music app and gallery just hang. My docks aren't working either and my alarm clock app force closes. This upgrade is more like a downgrade. Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Not good at all. Other than a factory reset, I'm out of suggestions, I'm afraid.

I was dubious about ICS being much of an improvement for my Lucid, but I was wrong. I like it. I like being able to at least disable any of the pre-installed apps since you can't remove them. I like the data usage app and the ability to turn off mobile data is need be. I find it to be a worthwhile improvement at least for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I've already got a data usage app on my phone from the Play Store, and I can turn mobile data on/off whenever I want. Where I'm coming from is ... LOTS of people have had issues with their Bionics and supposedly the ICS update will address those issues (mainly related to data drops). I've not had any of those issues, thankfully. Several people are reporting issues after installing ICS that they didn't have before the installation. Makes me wary, ya know? That's why right now I'm like, if it aint' broke, don't fix it!

I have the same issue with pics and music, but that was fixed overnight. I dont know how that happened. Now my only issue is the battery drain and slow to charge up. Does anyone know how to fix that issue? I hope and wish it will fix itself but I doubt it. Its slow to charge even while on AC power let alone plugged into USB.

it is so crazy it took forever my phone shutdown during the upgrade and now my phone does not ring, i cant play my music no volume.........please please tell me iw ill not have to do a factory reset to fix this problem

I had very similar problems after the update:

Extended battery drained to 0 in 4 hours
Gallery couldn't find pictures
Music couldn't find music files
Trying to set ringtone crashed

All problems were fixed by a Factory Reset. had to setup my email accounts again, but at least my phone is working.

Although it's a pain to do, I've heard that a factory reset is recommended after an OS update. As you said, at least your phone is working again.

The update bricked my phone....called verizon...and they are sending me a replacement phone......extremely angry.

As tikibar1 stated a hard reset is always recommended after an OS update especially one this significant. If you call VZW for help they will always walk you through that. If you don't want to do it that's fine but you will still have the issues. I did a hard reset after upgrade to JB and had my wife do it when she went to ICS and it worked wonders and cleared all issues! Stay thirsty my friend. I may not always do a hard reset, but when I do....lol

I will add my Dime an Nickle in with tik and say with the OS being as big as it is, Doing a F.D.R would be essential if one's are having issues.. On my Droid X i done 3 for each New upgrade Eclair, Fro Yo , And Gingerbread..

The OTA update is not working to well as far as I can tell. I left my spectrum sitting on counter and went out while it said it was updating. when I returned home it said something about a network error and I tried the download again.

it did the same thing with same message with it being at 20% .

I went and hooked it to the computer with the Verizon Upgrade Assistant and it found it said there was an update and it started which on counter said 7 minutes . make sure you take the setting for Mass Storage and change it to internet connection instead of Mass Storage.

The upgrade took another 9 minutes after the download (do not disconnect your phone from the computer until it tells you to or you will screw it up) then click close on the Verizon Upgrade Assistant but keep the phone still connected to your computer until it restarts its self. You will see on the phone it is scanning your media card and takes a little patience but when completed it works great.

You'd probably get more responses if you posted your issue in the Spectrum discussion rather than the Bionic one.

Since both are related to the ICS update, though, there are similarities. Folks were screaming about wanting ICS, they don't do their homework about prepping their phone first (ensuring battery is full, strong wifi signal, not turning off or pulling battery while update is ongoing, pulling the SD card, doing reset, etc.) and now are screaming 'cause the update is screwing up their phone. sigh I'd like to hang up a sign that says This is a big update, and patience is your friend.

I was able to get the ICS OTA downloaded and installed on two Bionics yesterday. >Comments concerning rooting are not permitted on this site< So far I am very happy with the update. I am very excited about the improvements in Webtop 3.0. I would like to get Webuntu working on ICS if possible but just having the Bionic lapdock work reasonably well with the browser is a big improvement. For those who sold their lapdocks before ICS, I was ready to sell mine on eBay but thought I would give ICS a try first, the speed difference is very noticeable and makes the lapdock a nice addon, esp for $60 price ;-)

stopping the service com.motorola.android.omadrm works for the battery and heating thing, but still all the other issues exist.

anytime the phone looks for media it starts again... Media includes Ringtones and notifications and alarm sounds etc.

go to battery and force stop the media process.

You don't need to do a FDR. You can try a Phone Cache Wipe first. This wipes ALL of the cache as well as other left over bits from an old OS. If you have changed your SIM Card though and not done a FDR you will need to do the FDR. Download Astro File Manager first and do a complete backup of your apps, then reload them from your SD card afterwards.

Try a Phone Cache Wipe. and if not then a Hard Reboot (NOT FDR). One thing though, if you have ever changed your SIM Card and not done a FDR afterwards, you will need to do the FDR.

Immediatey after OTA of ICS I went through my phone for functionality, it had problems, I first looked at the Motorola site, then Android site, then here, found very few answers and mostly problems. I called Verizon support, they put me through to the ICS support team. The tech took me through the following: confirm backup of all data, remove memory card, Factory reset, download ICS (this time it was VERY FAST), then he showed me a trick with google play to restore what programs I wanted.

GREAT SUPPORT, FRIENDLY, FAST. I LOVE MY Bionic now. Evereything it was supposed to be

Here is my issue with ICS: Webtop 3.0 is garbage, When I bought my Droid with Gingerbread, and the Lapdock 500, everything worked perfectly. With ICS and Webtop 3.0, I can not type three lines without all sorts of intermittent issues. I have cleared the cache, Factory reset, restored some apps. still bugs prevail. ICS is just bad programing.

The solution is to roll back to Gingerbread and previous version of Webtop which was more featurepacked and stable. Motorola has said they are dropping Webtop and I paid good money for a Lapdock 500 to work with this Droid. So if support can roll me back to Gingerbread and a version that works with my Droid and Lapdock as purchased, I will buy out my contract and go to the competition after being with Verizon since it was AirTouch ...
