4G... Really?

I just may be confused, but I recently got a New Verizon 4G lte I  Pad at the apple store in the  Florida Mall  in Orlando, Florida.  While the Top store Apple Genius was helping me set it up it kept showing 3G.  Upon my questioning him he said that they got poor reception in the store, and anytime the reception of 3G was stronger than the 4G, that the 3G would connect.  He said if I went outside I could get 4G service.  I did not have time to try that on my way home.   Since then I still have to see 4G showing on it.  I do live on the central  East coast, where the Verizon techs keep telling me it is coming this summer.   However, I recently traveled from central Florida to Key West and back, with the pad in the car using the Maps application, and have never seen 4G showing on it to indicate I was getting that type of signal.  I normally dont go outside to use the I pad.  It is already July.  When 4G  finally does come to the Cocoa Beach area, am I stuck with 3G when inside many places, like the Genius explained to me?

Congratulations on the purchase of your iPad with 4G! I would like to clear some things up for you regarding the 4G service.
When your area gets 4G http://bit.ly/z1nSzc, your device will be able to get 4G service indoors and outdoors.
Trust me, you will love the 4G speeds.

no. when it does actually come to your area, you will get it indoors in most places. thick walled buildings are about the only place my phone has had issues. in my house, office, etc., 4g comes through just fine.

Also buildings with metal like aluminum siding possibly stucco. I was at my dad's on vacation. He lives about a half mile from the tower and even upstairs I get 3 bars at best. Most times 2 bars. He has aluminum siding. Outside 4 bars no problem.

True....metal can cause issues, but stucko should be fine. I have a stucko home and get great coverage in my house. I'm in Phoenix though and we have excellent LTE.
