4G Service - Still Out Across the Nation?

A quick Google search shows tons and tons of angry customers without 4G service that just aren't getting answers.  I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone last night, first with a tech rep who thought I should just turn it on and off and remove the LTE sim card, before sending me to someone who knew what he was doing, that essentially did nothing but make me do the same thing, and then tell me he was alerting the "Network Team" -

Still nothing back, still no 4G service, but the worst part?  Not a word from Verizon.  No official announcements, not even on their own discussion forum?  I get if they don't want to look bad for potential new customers but come on, you have how many thousands of people without service now and NO update?  Going on 15+ hours since this started?  That's ridiculous.

Was thinking it was just me 'til now!  Got a LG 4G USB stick a couple weeks ago and had no problems with 4G until it suddenly stopped working last night! (12/6)  Couldn't connect to 3G at the time either.  Now, at least I'm getting a somewhat decent 3G connection but I am PAYING for 4G!  Verizon better get this worked out soon and should at LEAST communicate something to their customers!  Everyone who is having an issue should post in this forum to show Verizon how big of an issue this is....  I use my 4G USB stick for work, I NEED to be connected to do my job!

By the way I'm in Brooklyn, NY

I called Saturday evening to see if there is something wrong with my Thunderbolt as I was losing signal (more than usual). She was very helpfully and symposized with me. Had me torn it off and on. It seemed to help for a bit. Tuesday I've had more than I care to so I called. She had me remove my SIM card which seemed to help. And for a while it did until it would just drop you from the Internet completely. I was told I could get a new phone since I'm still in warranty. Wow! Im in Sacramento.

I am in Atlanta and am having the same issue - restarts and swapping to/from airplane mode makes the 4g service come back for about 1 min and then drop.  It is not isolated to the Northeast.

What verizon seems to be missing is that we would be satisfied, for the moment, with a basic explination of what's going on. In addition a public statement would allow us to tell customers and others "Remember the Verizon data outage? Yea.. that's why I didn't reply to you."

Things break, we get it, tell us what the issue is (generally) and then tell us what the ETA is- then post the RCA online for us to read.

I'm in Louisiana and since day one with 4G I have been dealing with constant restarts while either typing or talking (attributed it to an interface I'd downloaded, though now I see I'm not the only one) and data connection going in and out, flipping to airplane mode and out only to have 4g for about 60 seconds before it goes right back out without even stepping down to 3G.

On rare occasion I am able to utilize my browser uninterrupted for 15-20 minutes but the vast majority of the time I'm stuck waiting for the data connection to come back and often just give up on it.

I've done everything imaginable with my phone to correct the problem and the handful of times I've called customer service, I've been left on hold until I eventually give in and hang up.

After nearly 6 years with Verizon I have tried to be patient and give them a chance to correct the problem but at this point, I'm ready to cancel my contract and move on.

If you notice in other topics also there is usually someone from the company responding about the issue - and yet here, all these replies and views already and... nothing.  This is a big issue - also really makes you appreciate 4G once you get stuck with 3G again for a day huh?

Same issues with my droid charge. Glad I'm not the only one but this problem is really showing how useless Verizon's customer services is. I've used t-mobile, at&t, and sprint before finally switching to verizon. And although verizon may have fast networks, all my past providers have much better customer service. This is really disappointing, as I'm still paying for 4g service.

Out in 53219, Milwaukee, WI. Went out about an hour ago for me. Gave me a useless error about 4G not being authorized, customer support said that's what error can occur when there is an outage. I'm using a Motorola Droid Razr.

I talked to Verizon support, and they said they started working on it about 10 minutes ago, and the best estimate is 2-3 hours for fix.

Mine doesn't fallback to 3g, but I can get unreliable 3g (on  and off) by doing

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> System Selection

and switch to CDMA mode

Spoke with VZW, and they confirmed the outage - and its limited to just those with 4G phones - so switching to 3G service does not help.  Of course, there is no estimate on recovery time, and of course the only way to know is if you see your phone with the data connection or by calling in.

Settle down folks, the world survived without data plans up until 2006, we can certainly survive the next few hours/days.

what's going to be interesting is to see folks demanding to get a refund for the lack of data coverage over these past 2 days.  So at $30/month, folks are going to move mountains to get their $2 back!

but I agree with another poster - it's not the fact that there is an outage, it's the lack of communication about such outage.  A simple text message would suffice

Yeah, the silence from VZW is deafening. :smileysad:

I don't know what plan you have but mine is significantly more than $30/month.  I am paying for unlimited data and I expect unlimited access to it.  A 2-day downtime is completely unacceptable.

Outage started here in Dayton, OH around 11am, and I only recently got 1X service back, still intermittent.

Yes surpriseing that not one representative has posted back to any of us at all. I would have expected something since they have posted in most other forums.

And its not so much as living with out the plan as one of you say its the fact that customer service seems to not want to notify people of what is happening. That is what makes this all so frusterating. Well we will see if the problem is resolved later.

My issue is that I keep getting different answers,

"It's the network" "Pull out the SIM card" "Do a reset" (which I did and that sucked).  "Get a new SIM card" "No, don't get a new SIM card, it will make it worse" "No get one" etc etc etc....

Each rep I talk to gives me a different story.  Wasted a whole day yesterday with Verizon.

Give me an answer!!!

Whats worse than the lack of service, (you can lock your phone to 3G and it works) and Verizon's total lack of information is the MIS INFORMATION they are passing.

I reported this problem yesterday when my phone kept sending me messages that my sim card was bad and I had to call customer service. The person on the line had no clue of there being anything wrong, so I pushed to get an engineer.  Engineer comes on and immediately tells me the problem is only with Droid Razers and his "team" is on it and it should be up shortly.  This morning I turn my phone on and nothing.   So I call Verizon Support and get told my SIM must be bad because there is nothing wrong with the Network.  I walk to the store in the rain to get a new SIM and get told I am about the 100th person to come in for a sim and that there is nothing wrong with the phone it is the network.  Call the support line and they tell me the network is fine  and the store is wrong.

I can live with no data or being forced to 3G.  I cannot live with the total lack of information and then when you get some it is all a bunch of misinformation.

Verizon has no problem spamming me with text messages to buy additional features for my 4G phone, how about a text that tells me their service is down and they apologize for the inconvenience.
